Title: Please help!!!!!
Post by: scott2611 on 13 November 2008, 16:14:33
Hello kind people,
I'm a complete noob first of all.
I drive a 2.2 cdx on a W. I'm having some problems.
First of all my car was driving fine and then discovered a oil leak. I got told it was the rocker gasket. I got that changed at a local garage. About 2 weeks later the car started misfiring (well power then no power etc etc) I got told to look at the spark plugs. So i changed them. The old ones had oil round them.
That seemed to solve the problem for a day. Untill i decided to put my foot down and low and behold the misfiring started again.
I decided to look at the spark plugs again and there was abit of oil around the thread of the spark plug but i cant see that been a massive problem.
Does anyone have any reccomendations.

route cause usually blocked crank case breathers. Not that familiar with the 4 pot system but if the crank case cant release piston blow by gasses then the easiest place to for it to release is cam cover gaskit. When this goes, it fills the plug wells with oil cooking the plugs and ht leads, this can then put excess load on the dis pac.
You may well find the breathers have not been cleaned and the cam cover gaskit has blown again.
In the mean time your ht leads will possibly have split on the base of the rubber cap.
Check/replace ht leads and look for Marks on the plug ceramic insulator.
Clean crank case breathers. Imho.

if your happy the breathers are clear, then re seat the cam covers, clean all the oil out, and check you ht leads for damage, splits in the rubber etc. If your happy they are ok then only thing left is the dis pac...

you can't paper clip a 2.2 or do the pedal trick either,

here is a guide for the cam cover gasket, do you know if black sealant was used when it was done? I did mine about a month ago, very straight forward..

Here is the breathers guide...

Good clean oil, and clean breathers do wonders for the 2.2

Yes, sorry, its coil packs on the 2.2, as you say. not leads and dis pac, whoops.
Fairly sure the rubbers can be had from vx for the 4 pot, so you dont need the whole coil pack.(they dont do the v6 rubbers as such in case anybody wondering, so i read on here, but nobody seems to know if 4 pot rubbers fit the v6? Off topic) just a note did you see any cracks in the plastic on coil packs?

i,m going to get the codes read on wednesday, at vx. Does anyone know any garages around leeds what read codes???

And another thing, I have drove the car cold today and it was fine. It seems to have the problem when the car heats up to normal temp and idle's properly. But it does it when you let the revs drop to 600.

I am puzzled
