My 2.5 V6 has had a bit of a problem. The top off side pulley for the PolyV Belt/Alternator Belt has Disintergrated, leaving just the bearings attached to the engine. The belt was fine so it must have been something wrong with the pulley.
Is this a common fault and is it an easy fix?

Thats the tensioner. Occasionally the bearings fail, but usually goes noisy.
The pulley is available on its own if tensioner part OK, else entire tensioner (£45)

Don't let the Vx Dealers tell you that you can't buy them separate either mate as some have done :o
The bearing on its own costs around £20 iirc :y

The thing I need to know is whether it is an easy fix or is the anything complicated to remove before trying to fix it? I noticed there were a couple of air con pipes in the way but as far as I can see thats all that needs to be moved/removed

fairly common in my opinion i have seen two fail this year alone, mine went noisy like theboy said and the mother in laws did exactly as yours did,
as for easy fix it is a two minute job, :y
all you need is a 15m spanner or socket,
standing at drivers side put spanner/socket on nut and push the nut as if you are tightening the nut and hold it, this releases the tension on the belt and allows you to get the belt off easily
next you undo the nut as per normal and voila the pulley is off,
refitting is just as easy and is just as easy as removal

If you have to remove the pulley and the whole body, iirc you just need to take the bagpipes off (on a V6) there are two bolts that hold the whole thing on, the top bolt has a bracket to carry the wiring harness casing, that is really it :y

Look at the V6 cambelt DVD - Mark re-lubes the tensioner bearing. Did this on both of mine when i did belts - both were dry now whisper quiet :y

i'v got a spare one if anybody wants one after having bearings go and tensioner pulley being no good- wants greasing but for 5 pound i'll post it for nothing
