This problem affects all v6's from time to time but not v6 vectras where the filler cap goes direct into the cam cover.
The oil filler tube uses the same srew in mechanism as the CAP,remove tube,place CAP direct in cam cover - bingo no more mayo build up which is undoubtly caused by the temp differential between tube and cam covers..........

The cause is that its a high spot where mositure gathers.....in most cars the wash from the cams keeps it clear and hence this is what happens with the filler directly into the cover.
Trouble is, it makes oil filling a bit more of a pain.

Certain oils are more prone to this as well - Castrol being a particularly bad one that springs to mind.
Vx own oil seems to be good at reducing this, but I guess with lots of short journies will still happen.

I've noticed this on a few occasions and I've only been using Castrol Oil, usually 10W40 GTX Pro. I always thought it was condensation but the niggling thought that it was head gasket never went away. Maybe it will now

Re attache for oil fill ups only maybe? Just dont loose the bugger.

I noticed I had mayo in my oil filler cap on my recently purchased Omega, service record showed it had been filled with Castrol GTX. So I went to my local National Tyres & Autocare & had an oil, filter & flush for £31.50 using Castrol Magnatec 10W40. No more mayo now!
