Hi.thanks for your reply.I wonder if you could help, after m.o.t a few weeks back  i was informed of an oil leek to the rear axle and booked it in for repair,I was informed after inspection that they could not do the repair(some sort of inner seal) as it involved using certain vauxhall tools which they did not have,I was offered the diesel rear axle but after your reply would prefer to have the repair to existing axle.I live on the suffolk..norfolk borders and wondered if there was anyone you could recommend to carry out the work.Once again..Many thanks.

Any independent setup should be able to do it as per the following guide:

Not to long a job, took me about 1.5 hours in the pouring rain, without a ramp in the middle of a camp site!

Is there another seal which is a harder and longer job, reason i ask is that the garage which was to carry out the repair(quoted around £150+part) informed me they could not do the repair as it was a more difficult job(after inspection) which needed to be done by a vauxhall mechanic due to the tools and they said it would cost around £500.Many thanks.

There are two other seals on the output shafts......these are easier to replace.

Ask them if they are talking about the pinion seal.

Hi,
Sounds to me like they just don't fancy the job.
I changed the pinnion oil seal on mine no problem following the guide on here.

Only "special" tools are a 30mm deep socket for the pinnion flange nut, and three legged bearing puller to pull the flange off.(both items available from Halfords)

The oil seal is about £25.00 only from Vx.

I did mine while I had the exhaust system off for renewal which I think made the job easier.

Regards

Roger

25 quid....I pay about a tenner plus VAT!

As for the puller, you can use the prop and prop bolts to pull the flange off (if you dont have one)  :y
