Title: Petrol
Post by: ian6pot on 14 November 2008, 07:10:08
What are people using,i dont mean which brand but is it 95RON or 97RON.
I rightly or wrongly check how much cash i have first and to be honest always end up with 95RON.
The last car i had was an imported Toyota twin turbo soarer which ran sick on anything less then 97RON but whats best for the 2.5V6?
Would i be wasting money on the full fat stuff or am i losing out using the semiskimed?
I have never really understood the difference :-/

I use the cheapest I can get, simple as that. car seems to run fine on it.
Imo its a bit pointless to use the best/most expensive of everything on a 12 year old car worth £350 quid.

You have a valid point about the value of the car, they may be most peoples pride and joy but you have to be reallistic.

having said that,i am all for getting the best from my car so has anyone any thoughts?

To be honest its probably worth putting in the good stuff once in a while for the cleaning additives, gets some of the built up crap out of the engine...but I use the cheap stuff because I cant really afford to pay out any more

Yes chris thats why i use the cheap stuff. The Toyota was not a uk car and was made to run on better stuff than what we have here but i suspect the V6 being a UK car is the opposite.

i would imagine the best choice is to use what the engine is made for and if not mistaken for vauxhall V6 it should be RON 95. Am not sure there will be any difference if you were to use RON 97. Soarer is Japanese import and there they use high octane fuel. I think their normal every-day petrol is RON 98.

You could try the BP round the corner from my work - 102 Ron but it is £2.40 ish a litre.

If Omega's are anything like Cavalier Mk3's then there should be a relay under the bonnet which if inserted one way optomises the car for 95 Ron and the other way for 97/98 Ron.

In my Omega, I use the cheapest I possibly can.

Not sure about 2.0 but 2.5 and 3.0 have knock sensor which adjusts timing depending on Ron of fuel for best performance. My 3.0 seems more responsive with super and give 20 or so more miles per tank round the doors.
