Broke down on way home tonight.
Called the RAC, error codes 73,74 came up.
The car is running like a bag of spanners, sounds like a bad misfire.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience in getting this fixed. It points to air flow etc
All help would be grateful.
The car basically looses power and maybe someone out there has had the same problem.
Many thanks
Laurie

Re-read the error codes.
And which engine.
Does it run ny smoother (although it will be down on power) with the MAF unplugged
-
I saw the codes on the RAC laptop.
I got a tow back as it was in the middle of nowhere.
It is a 2.5V6, i havent disconnected the MAF, but i suspect this is a cranks sensor.
Any ideas?
-
So read the codes yourself and post back :y
-
I have also checked this site and point to crank sensor. Are these easy to replace and how much are they. Any ideas on part number
-
if its the crank sensor on a v6 then it wont start...
but if it runs rough then it could be the maf

Read the codes.....

Never change things on a wim, leave that to the unprofessionals.....find the fault, prove the fault and then fix! :y

ok the plot thickens. Been out to car. started no problem, no EML, idles normal but a slight flat spot when revving slowly.
Disconnect what i thk is the MAF plug, EML on and idles slightly higher.
I take it the MAF is on the pipe that goes to the airbox?
-
Yes but, read the fault codes!
-
okay are we saying that the 73 and 74 codes are not always the fault?
I am slightly confused why the paperclip test will be more accurate then the RAC laptop that was connected?
If it is the MAF, what codes should i get with the Paperclip test, the same.
Will this be an intermittent problem, ie, will the car run okay one day etc and then not. Sorry to ask loads.
Thx
-
if you use the paperclip test then you can tell us what codes you get without having to remember- aslong as you remember to write them down :P

What I dont trust is anything RAC related.
There are some MAF codes but, no indication of cank sensor......hence it would be better to read the codes yourself as per the link and post back.
I have little faith in the breakdown services!
-
ok i will do this tomorrow now. Can you tell me the common places for air leaks?
-
Also if i disconnect the MAF will the car run okay? With the suspected (73, 74) codes ?

If it is the MAF at fault (IF) then with it disconnected it will drop to a default MAP....but will be pretty sluggish
-
ok, i have done the test.
i get 12 to start the test.
74, then 73, then the usual 31 as normal.

You would be better pm'in markey mark or JueV6 as I know they are breaking cars at the mo :y

Check all the elbows on the thin vaccum pipes and connections on vacuum pipes.
I think that my poor running was down to that but I only found it after I had removed the plenum to replace the dispack.
So I cant be 100% that I caused the vac pipe to come free? ? ? ?
