2000 Omega estate (facelift, but with 2.5 V6).
Not used it for 4 weeks, and now I can't get in. The light flashes on the remote, but it doesn't unlock. Doesn't unlock with the key either. I'm presuming that the battery is flat (it's relatively new, so I'm assuming I left something switched on). But surely the door would unlock even with a flat battery ??!?
What can I do ? I'd rather save my RAC visits for the VW camper !

Figured you should still be able to open the drivers door 'mechanically' with they key....irrespective of battery charge.....perhaps not the battery ?

The key in the door will work, its very hard to turn, so much so that you would think the key will brake, but it should open ;)

Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought, but can't think of a way to test it at the moment. And I was away on holiday, so would have checked pretty carefully. But if not the battery, then what ?

As "Elite Pete" says. Force the key to unlock it then you can check whether it`s the battery :y

That's turning clockwise to unlock ? Serious 'brave pill' intake required to turn it just short of breaking.

Yes. You will be expecting the key to snap but just force it :y

Thanks for the help. Worked rather more easily than I feared ! It is a dud battery, but I've got a power pack, so should be on the road in no time.

Moral to this tale, open the door from time to time with the key, keeps it free :y

i cant remember if this is on the omega or corsa (i read it either here or on corsasport) but u can just about get under the car, and get a set of jump leads on the starter motor terminals, and hook up a second battery. That way you can open the car :p

A flat battery on the car will stop the central locking from working, so open the car with the key and get in close the door and try to start the car , if the car starts then the problem is the fob, it may just need re connecting to the car,
1 put the key in the igniton and turn the barrel till the ign lights come on [dont crank the starter]
2 press the lock button on the fob and the locks should lock then unlock.
3 remove key from ignition lock and try to lock the car as normal with the fob, [this should work 9/10 times.]
If it does not work then try a new battery in the fob , then you may have to get a new fob. Hope this is of some help to you.
I had the same problem but eventually i had to replace the fob and I have had no problems since. ::)

i've had battery's go dead on me very often and have never been brave enough to force the drivers lock. i always thought it wouldn't open due to the deadlocks holding it!
anyway, my remedy has been to open the saloon boot with the key (always simple....touch wood.)
Then i've either
- pushed the ski hatchdown (never lock it from the inside me!) put a hand through and dropped the seat, then crawled through and popped the bonnet. then an assistant puts a charger on the battery and i can get out properly - that or climb back through the boot to do it meself!
or - realised that an easier way to get juice to the battery is to pop the boot light out and attach a bog standard car charger to the lamp terminals! This gets enough juice to the battery to enable the central locking to work and then doors'll open normally, bonnet can be released and a nice charge given overnight.

Which is how I got in my car when the battery died a death. It doesn't work with a facelift though .... nowhere to put your key in a face lift saloon's boot! ;) :y :y

oh yeah.. that stupid button thing. I knew there was another reason i don't like facelifts!!
