exactly what it says on the tin! is it a case of just getting the right product, steam cleaning/jet washing the underside, letting it dry and then painting the stuff on with a fat brush? any bits to avoid? some companies seem to charge a lot for this service, i wondered if i could have a go myself?
your advice greatly appreciated! :y anyone done this themselves?

of all the omegas i have broken i have yet to see a rotton one ! underseal from factory is pretty good underneath :y just repair any damage from crazy trye fitters !! ::)

Looking at doing this as well. However the box sections (chassis rails) seem to need a sort of misting process so that complete coverage is achieved inside then a check that all the drain holes are still clear.
I guess anything you do has got to be an improvement as long as you don't create a sandwich that water can seep into.

so no need to cover the underside then? the new road gritter salt and brine combo fills me with dread when driving through britains roads aka salidioter rivers this winter
was also thinking of applying the treatment to my cav so wondered what products to use and how best to apply?

Brushing on underseal would be a mistake, it really wouldn't protect an older car as any rust would already be working away from within, but as already posted, Omega's rarely rust underneath anyway.
I'd guess any MOT tester would look very close at any car covered in underseal
But if you do want to underseal your car, it is best to spray it on.

made an impulsive purchase the other day from a motor factors, an airosol can of copper slip and a can of under body spray. Haveing seen a few posts about brake pipes failing an mot from corrosion i thought i would spray the buggers first.

I am sure there will be some exceptions but, every Omega with a brake pipe fail I have seen has not had corroded pipes...........they were nothing more salt crystals on the pipe.
The best method I find is a good wipe down and then apply grease with a brush to them.
As for sealing, wax oil for cavities, under seal to cover any chipped or damaged areas and hammerite for the trailing arms etc.

Dinatrol clicky (http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp?productID=9045&frostProductName=Dinitrol%203654%20(1%20litre)&catID=28&frostCat=Rust&frostSubCat=Dinitrol&subCatID=35) is pretty good. Various types too.

Plan is to use pylon paint, then overcoat with Schutz from spraygun.
First though, check that all drain holes in box sections are clear, then Waxoyl these sections. Brake pipes will also be cleaned and coated with brushed-on grease.
The pylon paint actually dispels water/moisture, and can be applied to a wet underside. Working area needs to be well-ventilated, and drink some milk first - the cellulose fumes are strong .... !
Got to agree with the comments posted here, the structure of the Omega is pretty bomb-proof!

Ive been reading up quite a bit on this recently, as I want to do the MX5 and from what ive read, Waxoyl seems to be a bit old hat and Dinitrol is its recommended replacement.

yup......agree with markey......rather than underseal, which is ok from new, but wouldnt want to seal any rust/rot in - years ago, i used to use a mixture of used engine oil and petrol (only a wee bit; and NOT recommended now - lol) - and sprayed underside (after a steamclean and dry) - my ex AA minivan was SOLID underneath :y :y

Most Mini's had inbuilt oil spreaders ;D

Hello there, Best product is Comma wax seal ML its spray on by airosol, it goes on like thin oil and dries to a hard wax. The key to its success is it contains ML so any product with this in would be OK. It comes in 500ml airosols and easy to apply I use it once a year just remember to remove your wheels and sheet up your hubs and brakes you'll need 3 to 4 tins,to do the whole car OUCH!!! It aint cheap.But good kit rarely is,and its good to keep in the garage to use for the vulnerable bits when working on the car.There it is. Happy rustproofing.Regards,Cliff :y :y
