Hi, Just bought a facelift omega 2.5 manual
its only done 76000 but the owner said it wont start as oil in water etc.. it wont start he said. he reckons its a head gasket or oil cooler. is thier anything else i should check ?.
getting it for £225 so hopefully worth it
thanks in advance.

If there is oil in the header tank...oil cooler...relatively cheap to fix (garage should charge £300 or so or do it yourself) so for a facelift an absolute bargain at £225 if the car hasnt been driven while over heating and damaged other stuff...
That said, if its taxed and MOT'd then even if you have to change the engine it would still be cheap :)
Cant see you needing it but I have a decent 2.5 engine from a manual car if it comes to it :)

Hi first of all thanks for the quick response !.
I am a time served mechanic for ford so hopefully it is just the oil cooler. has thier been any problems with headgaskets on these ?.
i had a 2.0ltr old shape one which had done 213000 miles and was still going strong but mot was due and to much work for it to pass.
i may take that engine off you if worse comes to worse, pm me a price for it.
Thanks Ian.

Hi Ian, on the v6 engines the head gaskets generally only fail if the car has been driven while overheating due to for example oil cooler failing...so always possible...check mostlikely will be mayo looking oil on the dipstick...if its just top of the filler neck then nothing to worry about...might be worth updating your profile with location to make life easier :) :y

ok will check that, profile updated, thanks.

could be crank sensor stopping it starting as in my 2.5's case but the tensioner was buggered too lol!

Hi never got it, drove 310 miles to find engine had no compression at all. also had been clocked so was not interested.

gna say,
when i first got my 2.0 i wondered if it'd been clocked but when i got to know it i didnt think it had been!
anyway plenty more omegas in the sea lol ...or on ebay rather
