Title: Random Revving
Post by: dippydave on 01 December 2008, 20:48:21
On my LPG 2 litre estate i'm sometimes getting a random revving occurring! :-/

It's only noticeable at standstill and doesn't happen all the time, the engine revs from roughly 500 to 1500 by itself. (can't be too sure of that at the mo as the rev counter still doesnt work at all currently, see sep post: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1227461312/8#8 . A new (s/h) set of clocks should fix this sometime soon )

Sometimes i think a dab on the accelerator has stopped the random revving but as it's random it's hard to find a definite cause and cure!

any ideas for a place to start hunting?

I would start with a really good clean of the throttle body and idle air control valve, if that doesnt fix it start looking for an air leak around the throttle body flange, idle air valve or inlet manifold gasket.
Oh, and check that the throttle cable is free and not binding or over adjusted.

As he said ^^^^^^

Most likely dirty/sticking ICV.
