Hope someone can help please. (2000 2.2 petrol manual)
Car has developed a serious misfiring condition over the last few weeks to the point that it's no longer driveable.
Suspected oil in plug holes, and I was correct. Numbers 2 and 3 spark plugs nearly submerged. This is the second time this has happened despite me cleaning out the breathers, throttle body and pipework. Last time i used an aftermarket cam cover gasket which I suspect was poor quality. I have replaced it this time with a genuine vauxhall one and also 4 new gm sparkplugs. Also i removed all traces of oil from the coil pack ends.
Car run no better after this, made no difference at all. Car still runs bad. Engine management light came on briefly but after turning the car off and restarting it has not come on again. Took the car to a bosch agent just down the road (car wouldn't manage to go any further) and the man pluged it into the machine and it came up with 4 faults. Lambda sensor, immobiliser and 2 others that I can't remember but were to do with fuel pressure. Lambda sensor was a new one but he replaced it anyway, all the other faults were cleared and now it seems there are no electrical faults at all. garage has had the car for 2 weeks and can't find the problem. No check lights on and seemingly no sensor/computer faults.
I have got the car back home, changed the fuel filter thinking it may be clogged but no joy.
I'm thinking the coil pack may be fried but would that not show up on diagnostic machine?
Any help would be much apprieciated as i have no idea what to do next and I can't drive the car anywhere to someone who may be able to sort it.

could be to do with dispack or ht leads (afaik dispack wouldnt show up on tech2)
does it run rough or miss alot?

Sounds like the oil leak has fried the leads and/or the coil pack. Pretty sure it wouldnt throw up a fault code. :y

I have a feeling it might be the coil pack myself, but the guy at the garage reckons it's alright. Someone else in the trade reckons the oil on the plugs can short out the coil pack and fry it. Spose the only way to eliminate it is to fit a new one but if that doesn't cure it then I'm stumped. Don't want to keep buying stuff and finding out that's not the problem. I really have had enough of this car, it's probably going to end up being scrapped or sold as spares or repair, it is quite simply the most unreliable piece of junk I have ever owned.

One time I had a mis fire on the vectra and it turned out one of the injectors had gone. Was a different kind of mis to when the dis pack started to go down though. Most likely due to only one cylinder being affected. Whatever the garage was using identified a problem on number 2 cylinder, when they swapped the injector the problem went with it. Cant be any more help than that, I don't know if the diagnostics said it was an injector or not.

My problem is the diagnostic machine is showing no faults at all on the car. Eng manangment light isn't on either. Although i suspect the coil pack because it's been soaked twice, it does feel when driving that it's running out of petrol. Car will start instantly from cold but it simply won't move at all until it's warm. Letting the clutch out causes the car to stumble and die, it doesn't cut out, it keeps running and ticks over but applying the throttle again it takes ages to pick revs back up stumbling and stuttering until it clears itself, you think it's safe to set off then you let out the clutch and it just dies again. When the car is warm it will tick over sweetly and rev up to the redline with no stumbling or misfiring at all while stood on the drive, as soon as I try and drive it the problems start.

When my dis pack went it was missing all the time, in gear or ticking over. It was more noticeable when under load but like I say it was always there. The injector I didn't notice until higher revs, can't remember exactly but think it was from 2500 upwards.
Your sounds to me like it has to be a sensor if it is only when trying to drive, they should show up though. Not familiar with omegas so cant really help but suprised techII isnt giving anything.

The car is a manual I take it.
Just wonder if it's the dreaded cam sensor problem on a 2.2.

Just spotted your topic, I had a similar snag in Aug went on for 5-6 (or More) weeks-had an awful time trying to sort it. no posts since the 29/11 though, have you fixed it???
