Title: Engine Operating Temperature
Post by: TomD on 08 December 2008, 13:47:02
Hi,  I'm after some advice.
Hi,
I recently changed from a 2.6 Y reg Omega to a 3.2 52 reg MV6.
My 2.6, when warmed up settled down to run at a steady 85 degrees C, show on the dash temp guage.
The 3.2 initially warms up to about 90 degrees C and will run at about 85 degrees C in town and on short runs.
However on longer runs, typically when cruising on the motorway at about 70 - 75 mph, engine temp, as displayed, drops to 75 degrees C and sometimes to as low as 70 degrees C.
External temperatures when this has happened have been between 1 to 4 degrees C.
Is this normal or should I be looking for a fault on the thermostat ?
regards, TomD

Should be around midpoint on the gauge - little less when cruising, fractionally higher in traffic.

Sounds like stat isn't great on yours..

mine sits at 80 in the colder weather on the motor way. Sometimes drops just under, maybe 78 or 77...
Not sure its worth changeing the stat on yours  though.
