Title: problem with autobox

I came from the house yesterday and started the car only to see the gearbox warning light on. i tried to pull away but car would not move.i selected position 1 and off she went. manually through the gears ok but nothing if i select drive. the engine management light also stays on all the time. can anyone help please.

Top up the gearbox fluid...its probably run low and is killing your box or torque converter...I would do it before driving it again...

You need the codes read. It could be low fluid level but it could also be any number of things, not neccesarily gearbox related.

Start by reading the engine codes as this you can do yourself

hi guys, fluid level ok. my mate is away with car to check fault codes so we will see when he gets back.

hi, had the codes read by local garage all ok. still having probs with gearbox. when i start car their is a rattling noise from under the bonnet that wasnt there before but the car drives ok and changes gear as it should.about 5-10 mins later it starts. the whole car shudders i put the car in neutral at the traffic lights but even in neutral the tick over shudders. it wont go forward in drive only in first. any ideas.

forgot to mention their is no power when trying to accelerate and the car vibrates.

check for oil in plugwells ! could be knackered coil pack ! have a spare from 2.2 if you need one fella ! :y

defo sounds like coil pack :y is there a misfire??

hi yes there is a misfire and when idleing you can here the engine miss.

i found out it was coil pack by removing leads on at a time from plugs. luckily enough it was the bottom left one that was playing up so no part removal to diagnose problem. coil pack removal is a bit of a pig tho  :y

hi guys,

well had the plugs and coil pack checked all ok no oil in wells bone dry.when i start the car first thing all ok will run for about 10 mins ok then the engine will start to missfire slightly.another few mins and it drives like a tractor no power everything shudders as if it is only going on 2-3 cylinders.if i am traffic lights i have to put auto in 1st to move. any ideas driving me mad.

Nearest oof tech 2 must be hotel21 might be worth a pm. Hes in Scotland, somewhere...?

Guessing that mine is nearest but the question is, is it worth driving across the country and back again to get them read if you already have access to a real reader thats showing no faults?   :-/

hi guys,

well after some problems car now running smooth. changed the coil pack and was ok but not perfect so i also changed the lambda sensor and hey presto now running as it should.thanks for all your comments much appreciated.
