I would like some help please,my omega has been so faithfull to me until yesterday, she turns over but wont start.
The battery is strong and ignition turns over very well but will not fire up.Any help please?

Have you done a paperclip test for fault codes?
Wouldnt be suprised to see a 19 - crank sensor, in which case replace that and all will be well.
-
Do the paperclip test and post up the results :y

ok,i will try that thanks.I will let you know the outcome.
-
As Jimbob says, you will more than likely get 19 which is the crank sensor
-
ok,done paperclip test and only getting a 31?????
-
31 Just means engine not running, I take it it wasnt running?
-
no wasnt running, but have tried and still no joy!! :(
-
probably is crank sensor anyway. Has it done this before? Within the last week or 2? Or just out of the blue. If this is the first instance you may find it will start when you go back to it...
On the other hand is its just happened out of the blue and refuses to start for a sustained period, i mite suspect something else.
Fuel issues maybe?
-
i fear the worst,i suspect fuel pump.
over the last couple of months, whilst driving longish distance,a couple of occasions has happened where a momentary lack of power, like fuel blockage then back to normal, only a split second occurence but enough to set alarm bells ringing. Also a couple of times whilst idling at junction/in traffic, engine has stopped but fired up straight away.

I doubt its fuel pump ....particularly at idle as there is bugger all fuel need.
I suspect crank sensor as it can cause such symptoms and when totaly goosed raises a 31!
-
I'd opt for the crank sensor too! Mine gave the symptoms you describe occasionally but I got it changed before it went totally kaput :y :y
-
thanks guys,im trying to source a new sensor, got one from EU,£35ish +vat, just need to get there to get it,bout 8 miles from me.Doh!
-
this is one occasion where genuine really is best, been no end of trouble with after market crank sensors..
-
I agree... I couldn't get a genuine one where I was at the time so fitted a Bosch one... Should be the same as they're the OE manufacturers but still getting a code 19 come up!
-
i have got a new sensor, but not had time to fit it as been at work.will let you know the outcome when fitted.(prob monday)

Guys,i am really struggling to find the end of the sensor at the top of the engine,i have the car on an axle stand and have located the bottom of the sensor near the oil filter. Is there an easy way to locate this? I have removed the scuttle tray too,and although its tight i am still unable to locate the end.Any ideas please? :-?

Its here:
Its the three pin connector which in this picture is by the engine lifting eye on the back right of the engine (bottom left of pic)....note the pic above is taken from the flywheel end
-
Maintenance guide updated to add the connector location photo
-
thanks for the pic, that is a big help.Is that a 2.5 V6 engine in the pic?
I reckon mine is different(not had a look yet,im at work),either that or ive got the wrong sensor....doh!
-
2.5/3.0 both the same in this regard. The sensor is just beside the oil filter and the other end (connecting plug)is in the photo as mdtm has said.Make sure you route the sensor wiring as per the guide, rather than how it is originally routed. :y
