Title: eml light on a dti???
Post by: omegadti on 08 December 2008, 23:58:35
I had just completed a 200 mile journey on the motorway and as I came off the slip road my eml came on and the power dropped off considerably ("limp home mode????). Anyway I stopped the car as soon as I could and switched off the ignition, I then restarted the engine and the eml light went out straight away and the engine drove normally.  I drive a 52 plate 2.2 dti with 86000 miles on the clock - has anyone got any ideas what this could be????

Have a look here to read the codes.http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1189022687  but it may not work. The 2.2 petrol does not and needs a code reader. Tech 2 or similar.

Yep, they have one!  You really need to get the code read to diagnose the problem further.  Paperclip trick won't work, need a reader.

The EML comes on occasionally on my diesel Astra 1.7 low blow TD as I lift off from a light throttle ...... completely different engine .... but that's the EGR sticking. It happens occasionally enough that I ignore it. ;)  :y

as mentioned it needs a code reader to check codes and I am trying to free up some time to get together with Benbrunt to try his out.  If it is the egr is it serviceable or is it a new one and does anyone know how much?   Will it damage my engine if I carry on driving if I am on a long motorway journey?

My solution to EGR sticking issues is to remove the culprit and put it in the kitchen sink upside down.....then fill the passages with a GOOD oven cleaner (I use that one that comes witha  bloody great big plastic bag to put the oven shelves in), work the pintle a few times and leave for a couple of hours....

Then rinse out well.....you will be amazed at how much crudd comes out.

This generaly sorts them out but, some may require more than one go!
