Title: wont rev past 4000 rpm when warm?

hi all ,
got a bit ov a problem! car starts and idles fine , car runs right through rev range performs well , untill temp guage moves up to normal operating tenp then its fine up till about 4000 rpm and then missfires badly will not rev past 4000+/-2/300rpm its ok as 4000 in fifth is 85/90 mphbut i would like to sort it as its not right!
any help would be much appreciated ! bob.

Is the engine management light coming on when it does this?

no all the lights stay out as usual. and drives perfect untill that rev range!

I would do the paperclip test to see if any codes have been stored

thats not true the eml does come on ! i booted the thing tonight and held me foot down and yes eml comes on. :-? thanks pete i will do the paper clip thing when i can find where to stick it !

Could it be vacuum pipe related.  One of the multi-ram actuators kicks in at about 4000rpm?

Wont be vac related.

There are one or two sensors which will kick in the 4000rpm limit e.g cam sensor (although I have only ever seen them damaged and not failed), knock sensor (again, only seen the wries damaged).

Blocked fuel filter can cause a similar symptom to.
