Title: Paperclip test codes but what does it mean?
Post by: Varche on 16 December 2008, 11:23:06
Just done the paperclip test after getting the car running again with replacement gearbox.

Runs fine but on the following day just the once the EML came on as driving along. Stopped, switched off and back on again and it hasn't re appeared.

Here are the codes:

129   Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Feedback Voltage Low

132   Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Feedback Incorrect Signal

74   Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage High

Now I think I am right in thinking that the EGR isn't a problem and perhaps now would be the time to bite the bullet and have it off and clean it up and perhaps blank it off.

What about the 74? Is this something to be concerned about. It is MOT time in the next 30 days does this affect the emissions? Is it possible that working on the gearbox loom has disturbed a dodgy wiring connection in the engine compartment? :-?

PS Ah the joy of smooth gear changes again...... :y

ignore 74 for now.  Is egr firmly plugged in? Might be worth cleaning connector.

If you see Omegatoy in next few weeks, get him to clear codes - Tech1 sound be able to talk to your ECU, then see what comes back

tried tech 1 on it and although it should it wouldnt talk to it at all, wouldnt even talk to auto box for some reason? only able to access servotronic and central locking system? but i think Varche,s car is a late one :y

Hmmm, maybe its a motronic 2.8.3, and maybe tech1 can only do motronic 2.8.1.  Bugger.

Thanks, EGR connection cleaned up and plugged back in. No sign of the EML light other than at start up.

Will see what codes are there after 20 more engine starts.

Wouldn't surprise me if it has a Motronic 5.8.9 The early mini facelift cars seem to be made from an amalgum of early cars, later cars and other cars! I once had one of the first 1600 Capris and it had rear brakes off a 1300 escort or something daft like that.
