Title: Broken down awaiting recovery, fault codes listed
Post by: RichB on 18 December 2008, 18:25:04
Hi guys. I am broken down, car keeps stalling, did similar once yesterday but was fine today till journey home from work.

Fault codes

12 ?
144 immobiliser
55 ecu
19 rpm

Any clues for the AA man? Really need to get it up and running, meant to start work at 3.30am tomorrow!

crank sensor.  It may start once its cooled.  It may even get you home if you're really lucky. If it does, buy a lotto ticket

As I thought really.  It did start every now and again and the AA followed me for about half a mile before it cut out so towed me home.  Started again and reversed onto my drive ready for me to hopefully sort it.  AA man was a member of Autobahn Stomers and knew a few bits about them, he once owned a Carlton GSI  :y

I wonder if my new ABS card will turn up before I have to buy a new sensor, typical.  I will nip out now and check what sort of connector it has got on it so I can make sure I get the right one.

Any ideas why the other codes are coming up?

Cheers,

Richard

12 is start of codes,
144 will be old  - at some point the immobiliser stopped the car starting
55 - replace ecu - quite common if you have a chip, not normally a problem anyway.  I nearly always have to clear that one when I check codes on our 2.
19 the crank sensor thats 'broken you down' as you know.

Cheers mate thought it might be related to the chip.  Didnt show code 19 yesterday  ::)

Have checked underneath and it seems my sensor has the round plug, is that part number 90540743 ?  I'm a bit gutted that my new card hasnt come through yet, do you think I will get away with using myy old one that expired at the end of November?

Cheers,

Richard

Not actually a trade club item anyway, so you may get a couple of quid off tops anyway.

Think I paid about £50 for mine too. I would advise getting one from Vauxhall though as I had nothing but trouble with the ones off Fleabay :y

Ahh well got to get one from Vauxhall tomorrow anyway so will have to pay it no matter what!  Is it as simple to change as Mark makes out in the guide?  Would be good to have a nice easy job to do, sensor seems fairly easy to get at, just have to see whats going on with the wiring.

i drove my MV6 back from Exeter with a naffed sensor!

car was jump started when i bought it and cut out as soon as it got warm! then let it cool down n booted it all the way home back to the shire!

i did tap the dash and promise her a new sensor though! which i changed the next day!

aye i got a genuine sensor as i had trouble with a rubbish fuel parts sensor! dont pay a garage to change it as it really is one of the easiest V6 jobs

Cranksensors became a tradeclub item in the new book!

They have been trade club for about 2 years.

Easy enough to change, might be able to get one to mine today at TC price if it helps

what do you mean Mark delivered to yours or you would pick one up?  I emailed Alf last night and he said he has sent my new sticker and I should have it by now so I might wait for the post today, he said they could ring him and he would confirm it if necessary but you know what they are like at the Loughborough branch!  Shame the post doesnt come till about lunch time  :(

Typical, luckily not my area but I really need to get this sorted early today anyway.  Ill give Vauxhall a ring and order one and print out the email Alf sent and hope they either dont notice the date or accept the email.  £12 not the end of the world I suppose.

Mark Loughborough are out of stock and werent sure which one it was anyway they say there are 2.  They wont be able to get any in till Tuesday at the earliest  ::)

If you could get me one that would be great, would you be able to give them a call and see if they have one, if not then I will ring some other dealers and try and find one.

Cheers,

Richard

Do you know what shape connector it is?

Its round on the top I had a look last night.  It has one bolt to one side of the connector.

Cheers,

Richard

Well I have taken some pics from underneath and from above.  I now know where my coolant is going too, but no idea where its leaking from.

Mark have you ordered the right sensor?  Hope so  :y

The coolant is leaking down from the engine somewhere  :-/  Lots of nice pinkness on the gearbox and around the bottom of the filter and sensor, perhaps why it failed...?  Any ideas where this is coming from as I am needing to top up quite often now :(

I have had a good feel around the HBV but it doesnt seem to be leaking, replaced it a few thousand miles ago also as it was pouring out!  It very hard to see where it is coming from!

Cheers Mark, hopefully wont take me too long to do as ive got the car up and scuttle off already  :y  Your opinion on the water leak would be good :D  What time roughly are you coming?

Cheers,

Richard
