Post by: SP_3.2 on 18 December 2008, 02:26:34
After soon time my key for my facelift has had it need to get a new one Full key where would be the best place to go i know i can get one from the dealers but that would be £££. Can Anyone eles think of  where .

And am i right in thinking i will need a tech 2 to reprogram the new key.

Thanks

if you just need a key cutting you should be able to slot the electronic part of your key onto the new one. If the remote bit is knackered then you will need it reprogramming, i think.

I managed to repair mine with a bit of soldering :)

is it the switches that don't work? if it is you can solder new ones on and they don't cost much.

The transponder which is in the horsehoe bit need programming to immobiliser, and the remote fob needs programming to Alarm/Central Locking (depending on spec). All via Tech2.

Blank horseshoes available from OOF shop, but not the remote fobs

If you venture onto ebay for the remote fob you need to get the one with the identical internals, think Bosch, Megamos and another company make the internal gubbins.

They all appear identical on the outside but aren't interchangable

Is it possible  to use a Vectra folding 3 button key? Even if it did require some internal electrickery I'd love to have a folding key set up for the car.

I believe that the key "blade" itself may be a little thinner flatwise on the Vectra keys, but has anyone done any investigation?

Vectra folding key has a narrower 'blade' IIRC

Thats a shame, would be nice to have one of those.
