Title: throttle position sensor
Post by: kerrbeatmaster on 29 December 2008, 01:02:19
Hi , have been told have a fault which is showing as P1555 throttle position sensor, took car in as whilst driving along has on a couple of occaitions just cut out, aafter a short time will start and then may not do it for several months. Have been quoted £400.00 for the part , but am wondering if there is any thing else that may be adrift or if any other course of action can be taken. The fact that this only happens on the odd occasion  makes me wonder if it is indeed the sensor or more of a blip that  that is caused by something else . Oh the Omiga is a 2.2 CD Auto 2006  . Also if i have to embark on the purchase of a new TPS  i hope someone out there knows of a much cheaper place to obtain one .  Many Thanks   Martin

I'm guessing the TPS is built into the throttle body and cant be replaced on its own if thats the price!

Seems VERY expensive to me otherwise!

The TPS (as far as I know) is the small black box on the side of the throttle housing and it can be removed.  It's held on the 2 tamper proof screws (well the V6 one is) who quoted you £400 as they are about £80 this is still extortionate for a small potentiometer!

Bikes parts are normally extremely over priced and there only around £50.

I think mines got a intermittent fault (see my post Help please) so will be looking to replace mine no doubt.

Remove and clean the throttle body as a first step.

Mine are clean  :( what had occured to me is that parhaps a little WD40 on the plastic thing inside/back of the TPS may help things?

There is no TPS in the guise you might think on the 2.2 with it being drive by wire. The TPS is internal to the motor body and the error code actualy relates to a bit more than a TPS fault.

What it means is that the throttle plate is not at the position the ecu has demanded......this might be due to it stiking and hence the clean sudgestion.

Yes mate I see but my issue is with a 2.5 V6 I've wrongly thought the TPS was the same on non V6 engines.

Please have a look at my post http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1230550194 under Help please, things should hopefully make more sense then.

I had similar symptoms diagnosed by the boy and had to replace the throttle valve body (part number 9196357). I paid around 270 incl. vat (nov. 07) by using my autobahnstormers discount card at the local vauxhall dealers - you should get one since the money you save on this alone makes it worthwhile. Since replacing everything has been fine. Now i think about it i still have the original but i couldn't open it up. Also please add your location as someone nearby might be able to help you
PS - Just checked the trade club price and it is 240+vat

And hence no reply to your issue in this case as this thread is about a 2.2! (note: thread highjack)
