Post by: sess on 31 December 2008, 20:17:35
hi all,

i need to take the inlet manifold off my 2000 2.5 td to replace the gaskets.......
does anyone know if there is any specific way of tightening i.e in a particular order and what the correct torque settings are?

Initially, just tighten all the nuts evenly, so that the manifold is sitting securely to the cylinder head.

Then torque each nut to 23 Nm. This is Vx's official figure.

Good practise means that you'd start by torquing Nos 3 and 4 inlets first, then 2 & 5, and finish on 1 & 6, though I've not heard of any problems whichever way they're tightened-up.

While the manifold's off, stuff a rag in the inlet ports on the cylinder head to ensure that no foreign matter enters the combustion chambers. Good luck fella ..... !
