Title: ABS snag....
Post by: Marie on 01 January 2009, 23:08:50
well hia guys sorry for the long absence have been toppers with work. :(

i have got a ABS snag on my motor which is going to fail its mot i think.....sure it will.

fault: the light comes on 95% of the time. when you start the car most of the time the light is out. but when you start to drive it you can hear a clickin noise coming from the passenger side as soon as the light comes on the noise disappears as well as this when the light is out when you brake it feels like the brakes are fighting you, this is not all the time ether.

i have looked at the sensors all round and only one of them looks dodgy,  some of the protective sheth on the loom has been worn away and you can see the bare wire but i dont know if this is the sorce.

Got any ideas and is it going to cost me an arm and a leg? :-?

The light on will fail the MOT, I told you that a while ago  :P

The thing to do will be to read the codes and look at whatever it's reporting is wrong.

Based on experience with your car, In this order, I'd be looking at rear sensors, and then the ECU  :y

Hi Marie. Long time no see.

Is this the problem that has existed since the LPG conversion?

I can't remember if we successfully read the codes from the ABS ECU. Might be a good place to start. If it's wheel sensor wiring that should confirm it.

Trust you are well. :y

Bleh... I recall (from memory) when we LPG'd it in Hampshire... that it was a code logged for a rear sensor, that was the original issue..?

yes bad me it is the same fualt from when we did the gas! just never had the time to sort it, pants excuse i know.

oh i am well thankyou

just wondering if we clipped a cable pushing the wires through to the inside of the car but dont think the abs wiring goes that way.

must start with the sensors first like i think.

I have got Kev's cheapo Tech2 here. We'll have to check with him, but I'm reasonably confident he wouldn't mind me forwarding it your way, before returning it. Unlikely I will use it again :y

No Problem at all. Remember you need a laptop with a real serial port and a crash course in Hungarian patience. ;)

Failing that we could put the real McCoy on it, of course.

Oh, and I think all the wiring goes back through the bulkhead by the pollen filter. Rear sensors will, at least.

Noise from the ABS ECU suggests it might be something else though. Maybe it got upset when we had the battery disconnected. I believe the ECU wakes up and does a self test the first time the sensors indicate movement after startup.

i dont have a pc with a serial port.... yet! :-[

looks like a road tip might be in order. will have to look at my stupid shift system and jays away dates and see when i am free... or i might just go and con my mate who works in kwik fit to let me read the codes.

so it is possible we ( I) clipped something pushing through the cable.
