Title: Rear demisters
Post by: Bumbazor on 04 January 2009, 20:52:41
Has anyone got any pictures of exactly where the rear window demisters go? I'm still trying to decide wheter I want to retrofit some (I know I'm capable, just want all the facts first). Wiring's not an issue, just the fitment.
Also, are doorcards between those with and without the same?

The demisters exit roughly around where the door lock pins are and as they are plastic, I would think that there will be a difference in the doorcards.  No doubt someone who has had both will confirm though...

to fit them (im sure ive said all this before) you need:

2x blower motors and tubes to run to each vent
2x plastic trims that go from the ashtray up to the door pins
2x wiring looms from a 95-96elite, no other model will have the connector for the blowers
1x dashboard switch (same location as the mini/facelift traction control switch) if your tc switch is here then the conversion will not work.

you need to remove the rear window motor mechanism from each door in order to get the blower units to fit into their locations.

bout 3hrs work if all goes smooth.

you do know they only blow cold air from inside the door onto the glass dont you? some ppl think they are heated, but they aint.

still effective tho.

cheers

When you say I will have to remove the motor mechanism to get the motors to fit, does it go back afterwards?
Switch location isn't an issue as I'll be relocating it or having them on at the same time as something else.

you drill out the rivets for the window motors to remove them, then use a rivet gun and new rivets to put it back. its fairly easy.

I thought there were grills in the bottom of the door card which sucked air from the ducting under the front seats to the door windows?

nope, i fully investigated it and then fitted the whole setup to the cdx from the elite. no extra ducting found.  :'(

Ah well drilling and re-riveting them back in is no problem then! Sounds like a job to do while I fix other stuff . They're the only windows that don't have any form of demisting on them and sometimes I can't be arsed to wipe them, and it looks messy when I do. Certainly helps with visibility when clear.

Thanks for the clarification guys.

Were they only fitted to 95/96 models then? My drivers side motor isnt working, looks like second hand motors may be rare if they had a short run.
