Title: Spare Key
Post by: omegod on 06 January 2009, 11:18:11
I have been quoted £75 for a spare two button key, programmed and cut .

Good price or not ?

It depends how desperate you are for a second key. You could buy a second hand fob and have that reprogrammed by TB or MDTM for  £15 and just get a new key blade cut ;)

edited to change price

Well, I bought just the key section with transponder from a dealer and it was around 40 quid IIRC, cut but without programming. Apparently some lock places will cut them, and blanks are readily available on Ebay, and, IIRC in the OOF shop. I had no joy getting someone to cut one for me locally. YMMV.

The remote sections can be had from Ebay but beware there are several different types that are not compatible.

Programming, both of the transponder and the remote, (which are totally separate) can be carried out by one of the Tech 2 custodians on here.

So, on the face of it, you could probably save a few quid if you bought a blank, got it cut, bought a second hand remote and then got the resulting key paired on a tech 2. It would be a fair bit of hassle, however, with the risk that you might end up with the wrong remote (been there, done that  ::) ) or a tired 2nd hand remote.

depends, i got the bliper(3 button in my case) from a dealer for 35. Can be had cheaper.

The Boy on here did the rest with his tech2 for 15 iirc. I just got the blade cut at a lock smith.

If your price includes programmeing and cutting as you say, and you have the relevant car pass codes, then not too bad a price i guess. Depends how close you are to a tech2 owner on here i suppose, to make it worth saveing 20 odd quid.

Was your price from a vx dealer?

Not worth messing about with 2nd hand for that price, TBH. At least you should get the right one.

Prices of the 3 digit variety for the whole shooting match were quoted when I enquired at the main dealer. :o

As he lives in Liverpool, i would probably go for it.

Sorry i meant omegod s price. If thats from vx have they dropped their prices? They quoted me almost double that 8 months ago.

Blanks are often in shop, £12 inc transponder.  Remote fobs the shop is unable to supply.

Or, outside of shop, Blanks with transponders (but you need to provide fob) all programmed for £20, http://theboy.omegaowners.com :y

if you have a rummage on egay then you might find one for 10 pounds with postage included in that (about 7 pounds for the uncut key blade!)

im wondering now where i can get the three buttons and the switches part from cheaper than 22/24 pounds
