Have been quoted £150+ VAT to repair alternator - is that a fair price? Includes taking it out and putting it back in etc, thanks.
-
Depends whats being done?
What is the fault?
-
Not sure, but if a recon one on ebay is £45 - would that be the better deal?
-
What you ahev to consider is that there are only 3 items that can really be changed..
1) Front bearing - About a 5 quid for an SKF one
2) Rear bearing - About 3 quid for an SKF one
3) Brush/reg pack - abou 10-50 quid for a pattern item
Easy to strip and re-build plus 40 mins to remove and fit....
Is it noisey (bearings) or not charging?
-
Ow yes, what engine?
And to put it into perspective.....an exchange alternator from Vx is £103.79+vat trade club!
-
I picked up an alternator from a scrapy for £20 and had it tested only cost £10 :y
-
It's from a 2.2 51 reg auto. It's not charging, no noise. I think I was told something concerning the regulator?
-
Search fleabay for "jcrsupplies" bought my regulator for Bosch 120amp there. £9.50 + postage

From an excellent and reliable source.
In addition, the alternator on the 4 pots is easy to change!
