Title: Misting up
Post by: SP_3.2 on 09 January 2009, 19:52:41
Can i just check with you lot . A few weeks ago cleaned out the scuttle drain have a lot of water in it . All cleaned out and fine . Pollen filter looked ok.

Now with the sub -2 today the car was missing up as to cold for the AC to kick it. I then put on the recuralion seting and it cleared up fine.

Is this what you are ment to do . I will be picking up a new pollen filter just incase the old one is not working with it having the water there a few weeks ago.

Thanks

Steve.

I thought recirc made things worse as it doesn't let in fresh air and pushes the damp air around in the cabin

There was a known issue with facelift climate ......related to the re-circ function sometimes being wrongly set to re-circ on power up.

Cycling it through the re-circ re-sets it and hence the fogging goes away

just check the pollen filter/scuttle drain hole in the bottom isnt bunged up with wet leaves/mud (from rotten leaves)
and check in the boot, the cubby hole which isjust inside the boot (the tall one) and make sure its not rammed with stuff in it

On the facelift it as an auto re  circ function not sure if that helps.

I may be just that the old pollen filler may  be damp after the water in the scuttle drain as no way of knowing how long it was there

Thanks will do. May have to see if i can get a C C software update as the last time me and Mark had a look at it the Tech 2 would link up the CC ECU.

Could a damp pollen filter ( even with it not feeling so) give this misting.

you could take it out and leave it somewhere warm in the house for a day n then it should be fully dry if at all moist, i doubt it'd affect it that much or would for a bit then it'd probably just help the filter dry out by drawing the water through and out of it

Tumble dryer on low wouldn't hurt mine, but it's a prefacelift one, dunno about the facelift tbh

probably will mist up in this weather mate, have you tried the de-mist button, as opposed to the re- circ button? (which i leave on auto snif as i call it, to clarify, press the A button with circle around it to turn on re circ, press again withing a second and A is then circled to notify auto re-circ operating, when the sensor smells a nasty nif, no fumes or poo smells let into the car) use the de-mist button with curved screen and wiggly lines(as opposed to heated rear window, rectangular with wiggly lines is it?) for about 3 mins and should be find for the rest of the journey.

Unless there is a problem, damp in the car check the carpets are dry front and back. Oh and if you get in a cold car from training all hot and sweaty i guarantee it will fog up. Just hit the de mist, fans will go mental, and sit and wait until you can see. Hth

Field Remedy: 1417
Subject: Electronic air conditioning ECC - Window fogging after engine start
Models: Engines: Option:
Omega-B 2000...2002 All ECC
Complaint: The windscreen will suddenly start to become fogged at inner side caused due to increasing humidity inside the car.
Cause: At outside temperatures of 5 ° C and less with a battery which is not fully charged, recirculation flap is switching to recirculation mode if the supply voltage drops below 9 V for short time (i.e. on starting).

Remedy:
In case of customer complaints see the following instruction. This failure can be identified when the problem disappears after switching-on and off the air recirculation function. Procedure: First switch on Auto mode, switch-on the air recirculation by pressing the button A once (3 round arrows will be indicated, without "A" in the middle). Now the ECC will recognize the correct flap position. Wait 1-2 s and then switch-off the air recirculation by pressing the button A again.
