Title: gear wont come out of park

amongst other problems the bear lever wont comne out of park. i read it the release solenoid for the brake??  can this be cleaned lubricated and where is it. Only does thi every so often adn i have to press the little helo swith to release it

any ideas?

Where is this switch :-?

maybe the sport button on top?

That don`t release the gear lever  :-? :-? Sounds like a dodgy brake pedal switch :)

If you lift the gaiter there is a manual release lever ... yellow in colour.. on the left hand side of the selector.

lol well he said helo switch.. theres a halo ontop of the stick with an S in it lol

A new brake light switch cured mine when I had the same problem. It lives above the brake pedal.

hi , i had this with my old car ,
  try pressing the foot pedal and try moving the lever , worked for me  :y

Which is how it should work, however when the brake light swich fails, you can end up really popular with those behind you in the queue at the ligts when you can't get your car out of Park!  ;)

   this is true but the car i had to tow home then parked up and couldnt get out of park !!   ignore me im having a daft day !!! ;D

When you have the cover out of the way to move the interlock - owners manual has a description - check the microswitch that is operated by the selector release trigger.
If it has high resistance contacts it will prevent the solenoid from releasing the interlock.

The same switch is used in a Vectra auto if you are scrapyard hunting.

summit very stupid but i used to get calls to these problems often and sometimes it was a simple brake light bulb out if not it will be the light switch
