Title: q's about the 2.5 v6
Post by: maddogboy on 11 January 2009, 08:27:38
morning! ive recently realised that i have some issues with the miggy, the eml has always been on, cant remember the codes, but its o2 sensor open. decided to have a good look yesterday and the gent who had it before me has fitted new o2 sensors, wrong ones that is! the cars m reg and the loom side is a 3 wire job, and hes cut the connectors off and put a pair of 4 wire sensors on........  could someone please tell me if which wires should be used for the sensors?  the other prob is when you rev the engine theres a whine, not at idle, just when revved on traveling in a low gear. cam belt? pullys? thanks for taking the time to read this!!

cheers
ian

dont have haynes in front of me for wiring, not sure if facelift will be same.

whine - air leak? or something more sinister (you need to try to pinpoint it a bit better)

should of said its a pre facelift, its on a 94 plate, the whine after looking a bit harder is coming from the left bank (as you look from the front). sounds like its from the topleft pulley. sorry i cant explain it better.

Auxillary belt tensioner. Remove the belt, 15 mm spanner on said pulley centre nut and lever to your right as you look at it, slip belt off and run the engine briefly - the belt drives your water pump. If the noise disappears then you need a new tensioner roller which can be bought separately, despite what your dealer says  ;)

sorry, not had time just yet to have a look at the tensioner, can the bearings be greased? i dont really fancy paying out for a new one as im not keeping the car much longer, anly until i can find a reasonable cav v6!

yeah they sure can matey,if you undo the tensioner off the pulley as per normal right handed threads wth a 15 mm spanner/socket then just get either a paperclip thats straightened out/a very small flat headed screw drivers (the very very small sort) or some tweezers as demonstrated by TB i believe on the cam belt dvd :P (there's a small rubber seal on each side of the pulley between the centre shaft and the outer plastic)

trying to grease the bearings may work, , the noise will only get worse until  the bearings seize and either totally destroy the pulley or will shred the belt i have seen both happen :y

More often than not the 4 wire ones are not the right type!

Either way, all wires need to be connected.

Two of the wires will connect to 0V, the other will be for the heater and the last for the sensor.

What are the wire colours of the sensors?
