ex police or possibly european models (think it's a winter pack option)

btw there should be two i think, one at the top passenger side of the radiator and the other below the header tank to recirc round instead of sending it through the radiator

My UK spec, non plod MV6 with climate control had the one you describe, so that kinda widens the field a bit...

I understood it was something to do with the climate control to allow the heater to run whilst the engine was off, making use of the residual heat in the system....

The handbook for the later cars has a section on this if I remember rightly, its to allow the water to circulate when the engine is not running, so the heaters in the car will stay hot for as long as the coolant does.

i stand corrected then, i was going on the cambelt dvd- iv only ever seen one of those pumps on a radiator and that was about '98ish but i only saw the one on the radiator rather than the radiator AND under the header tank

Mine used to have one until I needed the space for a vapouriser. Don't miss it now it's gone.

I think these are known as the Winter Pack. The ones I have seen on Omegas seem not to have Cruise Control.
The inside of the car is warm in no time at all with this fitted :y
