Title: Flat Battery, How do i get it out???
Post by: headbanging on 18 January 2009, 10:41:56
Hi,

I have had a search on this forum for answers to this questions, but with no luck.

I have a P Reg Omega, and i believe the battery is flat. I can't unlock with the key fob, and the key won't turn in the drivers door.

I can unlock the boot, and i thought it would be easy to just climb through. Only problem being is that my son has locked the central seat in place, and i can see no way of getting throgh.

Does anyone have any ideas how i can get into the car, to pop the bonnet and get the battery out?

Is there a secret release switch somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

Keep trying the key in the lock, it should unlock it, it will feel like you are going to snap the key but it should turn :y

I now lubricate the lock regularly ::)

Was the car deadlocked? If so, the key will be VERY stiff in lock. If not deadlocked, will just be stiff.  Normally (with working battery), unlocking with key is electrically assisted.  Thats assuming its the right key!

If its the wrong key, you will have to get in boot and kick the centre bit down (the clip will break), reach up and press button to release one of the seats, then crawl through

if the battery is flat you can put jump leads on the starter motor (if you can get to it as i dont know omegas very well) and then connect to a known working battery or car thats running. the earth lead can be put on the engine or anywhere you can get a good connection.

common trick used on range rovers, its a bit easier on 4x4's as they have more ground clearance but you should be able to jack the car up!!

Hi All,

Thanks for your help so far. I'm pleased to say i sorted the problem.

I didn't really want to kick down the centre bit, so raided the wifes clothes airer and bent a bit of wire to release a seat (not easy with 2 child seats fitted), then reached in and unlocked the centre bit.

Then was able to get through and unlock bonnet. Now got bat on charge.

I did try the key in the lock, but it was breaking. Will have to sort that out once the battery is back on.

Thanks

Pre face lift cars have key operated  locks on the boot. Use the courtesy lamp connections to apply power so you can use your remote/key!
