Title: lks,
Post by: Rolo on 19 January 2009, 20:39:06
Hi folks,

The alarm on my 2.6 CDX started going off for no apparent reason a few weeks ago. But thanks to you guys I was able to fix it by following your instructions and unplugging the Power Sounder (bit technical for me because I dont usually lift the bonnet on any car). Well it seemed to do the trick until tonight that is. I was watching the tele and the car alarm went off first time, that I know about, for 3 or 4 weeks. What have I unplugged !!

was it the round metal horn you unplugged or the square black plastic siren? what kind of sound is it giving off when it activates?

It was the squarish black thing, and it looked like the one in the photo that someone had kindly posted on the site. So I was fairly confident that I had got the right component. Althought the plug was on the side of the black thing and not underneath like the one in the photo.

then it must be the horn you are hearing, in which case you can unplug that also, but in the end its not going to fix your problem as your indicators will still flash like mad when it trips.

if you had a prefacelift or minifacelift id have a solution but im not sure how to disconnect the ultra sonic sensors on the facelift as they are inbuilt into the interior light, meaning you would need to snip a wire.

hang on to see if anyone else has any ideas.

If its not the powersounder problem .. it might be the bonnet sensor .. this gets knocked slightly off-line easily and then as the engine bay heats up or cools down the expansion is just enough to cause the circuit to break and it can set the alarm off... ..

worth a quick look ???   :)

Thanks Entwood,
That was the first thing I unplugged when the problem first occurred. It worked for a short while but when I unplugged the Power Sounder I plugged the Bonnet Sensor back in. Was this a mistake then?

mmm....

if it still hapened with the bonnet sensor unplugged .. its not that so eliminated and plug back in, same with powersounder ... next ... I'd try pressing the little "running man" that turns off the interior movement sensor every time for a few weeks .. if that cures it you either have a knacked movement sensor .. or .. and I had this on holiday in France much to the annoyance of the camping neighbours for 2 nights .... a stupid great moth in the car ... this, if big enough will set the movement sensor off ....

just random thoughts .....  :)
