Title: Changing hydraulic lifters
Post by: sev on 21 January 2009, 10:52:04
Ever since I changed my cambelt back in august, there's been a tapping coming from the left rear cylinder bank.

I'm pretty sure it's a lifter as initially it was all the time, then it quitened down with a few oil changes, and now it's only on start up/cold or under heavy load - when the engine's warm and idling it's quiet.

So, i'd like to ask, pattern or oem, and if so how much do the OE ones cost?

the pattern ones are 8 quid a pop, and i'm very tempted to get enough to just do the whole cylinder bank (6 am I right?), rather than tit about trying to find the duff one, knowing that the other lot are about the same sell by date!

ok, but if it's trolleyed they've still got to be replaced.  Is it worth having a couple as a backup?

What's the lifespan of these things?

Lfters you can....remove the cams and lift them out.

Stem seals are a different matter mind!

Possibly worth getting a few spares just in csae you have issues with any.

Mark, Chris, thanks for the heads up. I've read the guide, so perhaps i'll just get a couple just in case.  :y

I was waiting till I get some 3.0L cams so's i could do the job in one hit.
