Hi
My 2.6 is slightly low on power and idling a bit rough. The backbox needs replacing as the pipe is almost falling off.Would this cause the rough idling as the sensor may be detecting incorrect exhaust flow and trying to compensate. Replacing the backbox tommorrow but would like to know if this may be the cause. No faults are showing on the display.

IIRC, there's no sensors near to that end of the exhaust system, but I'm willing to be proved wrong.
Have you tried the pedal trick, to see if there's any codes stored despite no light? See http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1189022687
When was it last serviced?

Gearbox serviced about a month ago and an oil change as well. New plugs about 5000 miles ago and breathers cleaned recently :y

Nice, I think it's a common theme among Omega owners to look after them, and look at the thanks we get... :y
I'd start with the pedal trick, then have a look round the engine bay for any split pipes, or anything not attached and find out why. If you've a camera handy, posting up some pics of anything suspicious is a good idea - plenty of trained eyes on here.

P0650 Malfunction Indicator (MI) Control Circuit High Instrument

Nay bother, I was lucky enough to be around when it was first discovered - apparently it worked on the Vectras with drivebywire engines, then I was the first 2.6 to test it :Y

I remember we fixed the multirams when you were over a little while ago. Is it worth checking that everything is still in place as I believe we had to do a bit of a non-standard repair?
Did you change the MAF sensor, BTW?

Hope all is well with you. Thanks for your reply. I did change the MAF sensor and the car was running really well. Have just been for a drive in it and it is now running well again,very strange. Just hoping it was a minor problem as it happened when i was running low on fuel so thinking it may have picked up some crap from the fuel tank ::). Your advice is very welcome as i know for sure you know what you are talking about ;)

For the record I did have a back box that was - er - disconnected from the rest of the exhaust system for a month or so. The car did feel a little quicker after it was fixed but I think that was probably because I was adjusting the right foot to get the noise level I was used to. ::)
Certainly didn't have any running problems. The back box is pretty much a pair of straight through perforated pipes with wadding around them so I doubt it has much effect on gas fow.

Until the internals break down and the wadding "spreads" everywhere .. it then has a pretty major effect on performance ... it goes from great to crap very quickly !!
If the back box is so badly corroded externally as bits are "nearly falling off" .. perhaps the internals are poorly as well ???
Just a daft thought .. nowt else .. :)

Well got a backbox from ebay the other day. An imrscher one with twin exhaust so will be fitting it tomorrow. I now think the problem is not the exhaust and as it has disappered it may have been the fuel. But what about the code reading,any idea what it relates to in stupid layman terms, or are they just old codes stored from before the MAF sensor was changed :-?

True. They can block, and that will kill the performance.
