Hi folks, hoping you can help with a few wee niggles i have on my 00 2.5 v6.
1. Drivers side heated seat doesnt work, light comes on, but seat does not heat.
I had a quick search and couldnt find any cures.
I read somewhere else, (migweb maybe) that theres a wire between the base and back that frays and snaps, but having not dissassembled the seat before, and noting the airbags, i thought better about stripping it down.
2. the steering is very vague at times, and it tends to tramline pretty badly, alot worse than my old N reg 2.5TD.
Its quite unsettling if your rounding a corner at speed and the steering appears to have a "dead zone" before engaging.
I last week replaced the steering idler arm, which game me a brief improvement, but has not solved the problem.
3. power steering has a tendancy to intermittantly go very heavy, esspecially at full lock, when trying to get it back from full lock.
I was gonna just change out the PAS fluid, but wondered if this was maybe linked to the vagueness?
Many thanks for your time in reading this and any possible suggestions you may have.

Cant help with the seat mate other than say check the fuses and plugs etc.
Steering could well be the sensor on the pump it's supposed to stiffen as the speed increases. I've heard they can go the other way giving you a vague feel at speed and they can go stiff when at very slow speeds or when manoeuvring.
You say you replace the idler arm but what about the lower arms the bushes are very prone to failure.

seat will invariably be the heater pad failed.

My 2.6 seems to tramline, it just passed an MOT so I'm assuming the steering must be ok? Anyone using Pirelli P7's? My old Elite is way better, do all omegas have speed sensitive steering? Or was it just the Elite?

A 'new-to-me power' steering pump sorted mine out

As far as I know all Migs have speed sensitive steering as do many other Vaxuhall the Astra for one.

Only V6s.
The Astra (certainly the G) uses an electric power steering pump & is completely different from the Omega's set-up. :y

Is this speed sensor a fairly common problem then because mine is exactly the same. :-/

Pass! I know it's programmable via a proper TechII for minimum assistance, maximum assistance & something in between. :y And IIRC a new relay/controller cured an OOFers steering problems.
-
had servotronic module fail on my old mig. It alters the level of assistance to road speed. Stiff on motorway loose for parking etc. Mine went intermitently stiff at all speeds but not so stiff as to give no assistance at all. The level of assistance can be altered and diagnosed via tech2 only. Would suggest tech2 diagnostic via tech2 owners on here. See "The Boy" on here, rates at the bottom on one of is posts and maybe send him a pm. I would not bother a dealer with this if at all poss. they have not a clue and massivly over charge.
If the diagnostic gives all clear would suspect pump maybe, but have no experience with that issue. Hth

Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys :y
Have checked all fuses etc re the heated seat.
Speed sensitive steering u say, have not noticed it changing with speed tbh, but ill check that out.
I never go to main dealers, have worked for some previously and realise how little they know.
techno i have not replaced the lower arms, tbh i have them sitting there to be done, only lazyness has stopped me so far, a job for tomorrow if the rain holds off :y

I had tramlining (bump steer) on my miggy, stearing idler was shot and the bushings in the wishbones (apart from one). had it all replaced and had tracking, alignment and camber etc all re-done and she now drives lovely.
I have also noticed the power strearing problem too when i am on full lock and going v.slow, feels strange like something is trying to catch up ???
From past experience with other miggys i have had i don't think one of them had no problems on the front end, common course for them i think but good when sorted.
Also, where is this speed sensor (i assume on the pump???) and is it a pig to change ???
-
there is no seperate speed sensor for the PAS. It is driven from the ABS ecu same as the speedo and cruise module (if you have it)
-
it might be an idea to check the actual fluid level in the reservoir for the power steering.
sometimes it gets a bit low and it goes very "unassisted" when warm and creaks too at times.
also wasnt the servotronic just on the facelift and not on the prefacelift except maybe elites?

All V6's!! :y
Vx weren't (intentionally) going to go backwards when the Omega was introduced. the Senator & 6 pot carltons before it had servotronic - slightly different set up though. :y :y

oh no... i have a v6... i'v got servotonic to go wrong...i didnt on the 4pot before it lol!
(and i cant have noticed because it hasnt been driven yet lol)

My tech 2 gave an error message about servotronic, which meant absolutely nothing to me.
Guess this has answered my question, feels like my pas is on the minimum amount of assistance, but I think I prefer it that way

I have pirelli p7's and have found them to make the car a bit nervous on rutted roads and heavy camber, but superb for grip and wear rate.
When i got the car it had primacy pilots and they were superb in all respects with the exeception of wear rate. I will prob go back to michelins when time to replace .

Hi, sorry for the delay in updating, but replaced the bottom arms and problem solved with the steering vagueness.
Also have not had the problem with the steering going heavy on me, so wondering if the bushes on the bottom arms were that far gone they were letting the steering rods go over center and thats why it was heavy to bring it back from full lock.
have another problem though, noticed some nasty gunge sitting in the expansion bottle.....
oil cap is clean, no overheating, not using water or oil...
Im gonna give it a proper flush through, but im wondering if theres any simple solution to this or is it likely to be HG's or oil cooler?
Thanks for all your help thus far guys :)

oil cooler mate,....brown sludge?
