My 98 R reg omega Idles very rough. (and stutters)
Once i reach 60-80 mph it also stars to judder but that seems to go if i put my foot down and drop a gear (kickdown)
I have replaced he coil pack, plugs, cleaned all breathers etc.
Nothing shows up on diagnostics.
Its a lovely car but I feel like driving it off the nearist bridge.
Please help.
Thanks

the idling could be due to the icv (does it do it when warm or cold? )
also have the cleaner out the breather box thing at the rear of the drivers side cylinder bank?
-
Sorry the car is An R reg (99) X25XEV Auto Elite

Always after about 1 min after cold start.
Thanks

does that mean its the newer plenium without icv and egr valve?
-
Also cleaned breather box thing. The one with the naroow and fat hose
-
sory.. egnore that last post lol!
could be either an airleak or icv problems
my 2.0 used to cut out when it was warm and that was a problem with the ecv and the breather pipe

No it has both egr and iacv

giving your icv a good cleaning out with carb cleaner could do alot also when were the breathers last cleaned?

That worked on my 99 vectra 1600cc , i'll give it ago 2moro when its bright and you know. cheers mate

ok matey
on my 2.0 i poured surgical spirit down the breather pipe (going to the icv) and it came up top trumps ;)

i have the same problem with my omega 2001 2.2 auto it idles rough after a min when cold or so but judders on accleration at times no real power... whats an icv and ecr? where do i find these so i can clean them?
bear in mind i have had o2 sensor replaced, throttle body cleaned MAF replaced.plugs too. due to get exhaust replaced big hole in it.
what ye reckon?

Change the o-rings under the plenum , they are very cheap and helps the idle..

I have a 1997 2.5 v6 Auto which cuts out at junctions from time to time. Its just had a full service and no codes showed up on the coding m/c.could this be the same problam you are on about?

yep iacv and clean breathers :y check plug leads for oil :y

I got my pants pulled down at Toomeys...£13 for 6 sealing O-rings

yes what is a ivc and an ecr?

I was wondering could it be the crank sensor dying (although there are no fault codes showing up)
I really pissed at this stage as its really a nice car.
I can undertand it happening while idling but not while doing 70 mph on motorway ???
Please if anyone had the same problem and sorted it please say.
I dont want to keep changing parts til i find the real probem as parts aint cheap for omegas.
Thanks everyone

There is oil in 2 plug holes due to cam cover seal but didnt think that would cause it.
If it was the oil in the plug holes would the problem not show constantly?
Thanks
-
no fault codes will show with oil in the plug holes, it doesnt have anything to sense it apart from random misfire codes which usually dont come up till the time the dispacks buggered
when you swap the cam covers make sure the breather box behind the drivers side cam cover is clear in the bigger bored pipe and the pin sized hole!
paper clip works well for this!

no only at high load ! could be leads breaking down or dispac failing :y

;D
you must have bought originals.. same size same spec I find for 3£ only..

I got a second hand coil pack for 35 quid it worked well for a day then the same problems came back the car still gets bad cold start idle until warm. still a big hole in back pipes exhausts would this cause my problem with the car acting like its out of petrol on acceleration.
pulling my hair out with this car.. shes 144bhp for breaks sake!
do youknow of any expert omega fellas that can take alook directly ?
i cant keep replacing every part to find out the problem its like throwing money after bad.
replacements: coil pack , plugs , MAF , o2 sensor (bank 1) cleaned throttle body (was full of carbon) fuel filter i need a haynes manual so i know exactly where the parts are that i need to check so let me know what i need to check.
ive no tools must buy a cheap jack and tools.
seems to be a lot of talk about breathers and icv whats that explain?

the breathers are for the camcovers (think there might be one for the crankcase but idk about that tbh) they stop the pressure building up under the camcovers which causes the gaskets to go and get oil in the plugs, the icv just regulates the vacuum or something like that to let a small idle amount of air through or something like that
-
ICV is the idle control valve. Lives on the passenger side front corner of the plenum chamber.
Has a small multi connector pluging into the back of it.
It is connected to the multi ram system and this hose has a small diameter take off that connects to the fuel pressure regulator that lives under the rear end of the plenum.

pictures would be great !!

Cutting out on tickover,or at any point when your not pressing the gas pedal, clean icv. Silver alloy mustard pot pas side of plenum on v6. Wash out thorougly with carb cleaner then lube with light oil. Make sure the rubber seals to plenum when you put it back on or youll get an air leak. Used electrical tape on mine to keep the seal(by that i mean, wrapped around the ribbed ally "elbow"bit on the icv to increase the diameter and make a better seal, not to much or it wont go in.) 10 minute job all in.
Cutting out when pressing the gas pedal,(not rough running, i mean dead engine rolling to a stop) crank sensor, also if cranking on the key and not starting. May well then start 10 minutes later. Change sensor.
Rough running, poor tick over, bad vibration, usually lack of spark or, rarelly, fuel. Spark mostly, caused by damage to ignition system. Usually oil in plug wells cooking the ht leads or coil packs on drive by wire cars. Oil in plug wells is caused by blocked breathers, as mentioned, this blows the cam cover seal filling the plug wells with oil, and as said this will eventually cook the plugs and leads and possibly over loading the dis pac. ps, vibration and rough running at speed while accelerating, usually lack of spark again. Damaged ignition parts, as said, breakin down under load. Drive by wire and later cars have a more advanced diagnostic system and will pick up miss fires, and show a cylinder specific code. The earlier, short plenum cars dont seem to show miss fires as accurately afaik. So no codes on these cars with a missfire is common in my experience.
Plugs are cheapest from vx beleive it or not. Leads(ton plus a side) and dis pacs are not. Try breakers on here or motor factors for leads. Euro car parts do "v6" leads for £35, but they are not specific to the omega, so dont allow for the non central position of the dis pac.

Some people mentioned EGR valve in this discussion.
If the car suffers bad performance, bad acceleration and high fuel consumption and the diagnostic tools point out EGR valve as the cause... Is it be possible to clean the EGR valve? Can it be fully dismounted? Looks pretty solid in my opinion.... I managed to remove it from the bracket, but did not see any obvious way to dismount it.
What is the most common way to do this, and will it make any differance to clean it at all?

How often should i clean the ICV as the car cut out 6 times when queueing in traffic on the M25
