Title: Water in the Spark Plugs - Pictures Added
Post by: san on 25 January 2009, 23:08:08
Hello Everyone.

Today got misfire and found water in the 3/4 spark plugs.
There is a drain hole on the top of the last plug (in the plastic bellow the windscreen) also the plastic sponge is full of water.

Any ideas ??? What is blocked ??

Thanks a lot

Sure,

The hole is on the plastic. located above the ecotec cover.Next to the windscreen

Looks like should have some kind of pipe or tube.

The only drain holes I am aware of are driver`s side under scuttle and passenger side under scuttle where the pollen filter lives. :-/

PS "Scuttle" = black plastic under windscreen :y

I think when the seals around the windscreen wiper spindles aren't fitting correctly, water seems to seep through wetting the sponge sound buffer then leak onto the plenum or where ever it can. Can't think of the hole your on about though

The 2nd picture on the maintenance guide "Spark Plug Change for a 2.2 Facelift" shows the black sponge (mine is full of water) but don' shows the hole. Can I take a picture here ?

Sorry english is not my first language.

I think should be a kind of plastic tube or pipe to drain the water coming from it.

Missed possibly.

First was oil, cleaned, changed the gasket, now is it. Driving me nuts

Are the scuttle drains clear! Also, is the lower windscreen seal tight?

Had the same issue with Tunnie's project 2.0, that we HG'd and LPG'd :y

Take a look next Tuesday.

The scuttle drains I saw in the guides how to clean up but have no idea about the seal.

Any picture or location to check it ??

Regards

Does anyone with 2002/2.2 can check the existence of a pipe or tube coming down from the plastic (you can see in the pictures) ????

I got a small tube to "install" just for peace of mind. And once more dry the spark plugs.

Post here

Thanks for any help

It will probably be the winscreen seal, at the bottom of the windscreen.

Had this problem on mine, till I took it off and re-sealed it.

The sponge packing on my Mig seems to soak up water too it's never cased any problems I think it's just from the scuttle.

Thanks for the help

I should take out the scuttle this weekend. Didn't have time last Sunday.

I took out the spark plugs and cleaned, put a tube (ex RG58 cable cap) in the drain and my last misfire was Sunday when I put the foot down, Light came and engine start to fails.

The seal how can I identify it ?  :-? :-Can someone post a picture ? Is it the rubber that hold the windscreen ?

Thanks for everyone.

Sorry about the late reply to this post, I do not look through this excellent site as often as I should.

I have just had a look at the scuttle on my 2.2 estate and I found the same pipe so I tried to poke a piece of wire up it but could not do so.

After a closer look with an illuminated mirror I saw that it is just a hollow pin that a clip pushes on to to hold the foam padding in place, not a drain tube stub at all.

The clip on mine is quite rusty so water is getting to it from somewhere although the foam is dry (mind you the car is either in the garage or under a car port most of the time).
