Title: which bulbs
Post by: Davegoldi on 03 February 2009, 13:56:48
Hi all, recently bought an omega 2.6 v6 cd (2003).

I love the car and only have 2 slight problems with it.

Could anyone inform me as to which headlight bulbs I could use to improve my visibility at night, current lights are very very poor.  I have read lots on the forum with regard hids/facelifts versions etc, totally baffled by it all to be honest.  any help would be appreciated.

oh yes 2nd thing was what does the snowflake next to the auto gearbox supposed to represent / do.  I didnt get s manual with the car.

thanks

The "snowflake" as far as im aware puts the car into winter mode to reduce wheel spin etc i think  :y

Don't know about the headlights, but the snowflake means the car pulls off in 2nd gear to reduce wheel spin in slippery conditions...

It will light up when you put your lights on but will be brighter when you actually push the button .

I've not used it for a while to be honest, but from memory the actual button lights up when it is enabled, yes...

Hi Davegoldi.... Bulbs.. I've just put a pair of High power bulbs in my Omega.. Got them from Halfords on a buy one get one free "BOGOF"
They do make the headlights a lot better (90% brighter) and there a straight swap with the originals. Mine were the H1 type of fitting. If your not sure just take one out when you get there.

They are indeed H1's.....Osram nightbreakers are recommended and check the lucas terminals to the bulbs are clean and tight.

Ow yes, the snow button starts the car off in 3rd gear to reduce wheel spin.

Had Nightbreakers in my car for a whole year (superb) but somebody on here said they were illegal in this contry so i took them out for the MOT in jan (put the old ones back in just for the test) When i got the car back (passed) i put the Nightbreakers back in and they had both blown, i guess they dont like being disturbed. I needed some sharpish so i went to Halfords.

They have the correct markings and approvals etc so quite legal....its the higher wattage ones that have a question mark.

so its the 100 watt bulbs which are questionable with regard to legality.
55w h1 osram nightbreakers are the way to go.  you cant beat experience when it comes to advice.  thanks again

A "version" of the owners manual is here ...

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andrew.reynolds983/Manuals/Omega2002Manual.pdf

Even if not for your specific model .. covers most of the basics pretty well

:)

thanks for the links Entwood and VXL V6.

Following on from chris_1960's post.  so can you put these bulbs in the main beam too, just curious because if i am gonna be messing under the bonnet i may as well go the whole hog.
