I've been quoted 3 hours labour to change the diff and 2 hours to change the front bottom arms does this sound reasonable. Does anybody know the best place to source a second hand diff or is it possible for me to place a wanted ad on here for one.
Thanks

There are cars being broken on here regularly, Loo-Knee has an Elite he is smashing up right now. I am sure he has a diff on there. Changing the diff is not that difficult in all fairness if you want to have a go yourself. Otherwise some of the guys on here might help you out for beer money. WRT changing the front wishbones(?) I managed the job myself in about 2 hours having never done it before. Obviously for alignment I will have to get that done at a garage but better than forking out at the stealers :y

Just trying to find the bottom arms myself to see if i can get them cheaper. Am I correct in thinking they're proper name is lower wishbone?

I bought a pair (left & right) for £23.90 plus £15.90 postage off ebay last week.
Seller was Planet car parts. Delivered in 2 days.
Took me about 5 hours to do both but it was first time and I'm not a mechanic. Passed the MOT with them and all seems ok so far.

try vauxcentre 50 a pair or autovaux for lemforder, who make then for gm, 120 a pair.
Whats up with the diff out of interest? :-)

Diff is whining! Went to a mechanic I have known for years (after just finding out where his new garage is - wish he'd done my oil cooler!) and he lifted the back up and spun the wheels and listened. He then got me to accelerate with the wheels off the ground and listened and identified that it was defo the diff that is whining. The garge that did my mot also told me this.

For the wishbones are pattern parts ok? Or should I buy original ones?

Pattern parts are ok....in general.
Obviously the Lemforder or Merle ones are better but, its key to get them fitted properly (many tightne the front bolts with the wheels dangling).
As for labour times:
Diff: 2 hours (Vx quoted time)
Wishbones: 1.2 hours (Vx quoted time) or 0.7 per side
