To put HIDs on properly requires, in addition to the lights themselves ;

Headlight washing system
Automatic Headlight level adjusting system

A tremendous amount of work.

Better to fit ordinary "projectors" with a high output bulb

Assuming you swap entire headlight, your only legal problems are washers and automatic levelling

Hmmm HIDs

Well I have projectors with bulbs, I fitted a HID kit and I have had no issues.

MOT passed

Police no interest - remember Omegas are sort of Police invisible

OK My thoughts

Make sure they won't dazzle - that said I am well fed up of being dazzled by a Range Rover with them on the way home from work and that is OE fit.

Keep those lamps clean - I am now after some washers, but TBH a damp rag is best.

levelling sensor on rear suspension, levelling sensor on front suspension,  associated wiring if not present. The actual adjusting motors are inside the HID headlights.

:(

Fitted responsibly, you're less likely to get pulled up...  ....though I'd always change the headlights rather than kits.

Personally i find my projectors quite good...just keep they clean, daily wipe with damp rag.

Just imagine you had bodged HIDS installed and was involved in a nasty accident....insurance would have a field day.

At least with projectors you could say they were factory fitted. :y

just been speaking to a chap on flebay who sells these hid conversion kits
i told him ive not got auto levelling head lights and not got head light washers
and he said that fitting the hid conversion kit was perfectly legal
something about them not being factory fitted
and i would be ok with the plod and mot's

Rules for new cars leaving the factory and for after market mods are skettchy. While it is true that only what is stated in law can be fitted, it GENERALLY only applies to new vehicles (nothing about led lamps but they get away with it!!) The main thing in favour of aftermarket mods is if it makes the car safer a court (if it went that far) would have a hard time finding fault if you had upgraded your car to a newer/safer spec. Items must be fitted correctly and conform to safety specs, ie. legal to fit and pass an mot.
ANY MOD is a grey area with regards to insurance and RTA, but common sense will normally apply

He's going to tell you that aint he! He wants to sell his HID Kits after all doesn't he  ;D

If I were you, I would swap the whole headlights to a HID lights (ie from mini facelift elite etc). And then make sure that they are aligned properly - should be fine then!  ;)
