What makes you think you have a failed head gasket would be the first question...what are the symptoms?  :y

BMW state this head cannot be skimmed.  So if HG failed (or more likely head cracked) it can be bad news.

Has it overheated at some point?

Hasn't Jimbobs mate done this, I know its early days but would be interesting to see how long it runs for.

Running better than ever at the mo.

So they skimmed about 0.25 mm off.

Yes, there is a what is considered to be a thou in metric (mm's!)

Quite clearly the head was not warped if that is the case so no point machining it at all really!

But not what you'd generally use in a workshop. As 0.010"/10 thou is aprox 0.25mm (1mm ~0.040") for everyday use, hundredths of millimeters is plenty small enough. Thousandths of mms equates more to '10ths of thous of an inch'

We work in real thou (mm's).....but then we work with fibre optics and silicon!

 ...... and you won't be skimming them in a Brigeport/etc in a machine shop!  :y  :y
