Title: Leaking Radiator Advise please?
Post by: sophos9 on 09 February 2009, 10:13:28
I'm losing coolant, approx 1ltr per 3 weeks... Its not the coolant bridge, or plate (replaced all them not so long ago), HBV is fine, replaced the heater matrix about 6 months ago.

The only place I have seen evidence of coolant is what looks to be the drain plug on the radiator although when wiped an cleaned, it does not seem to be the source

Thanks for helping :)

When my rad failed, the coolant seemed to collect at the drain plug too. I think my failure was just age, it failed on one of the main cores in the middle. Changing the rad isn't difficult, a couple of temp switches on the passenger side & an ATF cooler for the auto cars.

Thanks for that - looks like I will need to find a replacement soon then. Did you buy new or scrappers?

A new one using a Trade Club card was around £200

Bummer... I got TC but cannot pay that. You see I'm on the verge of getting rid and getting a 2.2 Vectra because of the problems with the Omega

By the time I sorted radiator, oil cooler pipe work (my fault), handling problems, springs etc I will have spent sooo much. But then again, I like the omega?!?

Scrappers for me I think!

I know I'm probably going to get shouted at but what about radseal or magic bond?  :-X

Any radiator rebuilders near you. They will recore the radiator for a reasonable cost - mine cost about £50

here's a new one for good money
