Title: Engine trouble.

Hi everyone,  can you please help.  

I have an Omega 2.5 V6 and I have somehow managed to do something to the engine.  I had a metalic rattle and a squeel from one of the belts. The engine stuttered and stopped and now it won't start.

When I turn the key I get a click as if the starter is working then nothing.

Please can anyone give me a suggestion as to what I've done or a way I can fix it.

Whats the mileage it could be the Cambelt!

starter have you tried hitting it with a hammer or bump starting it if its a manual!!!

Before attempting to start it I`d have a peek behind the cambelt cover

When my cambelt snapped the motor turned over really quickly because there is less resistance .... i didnt have to look as i knew straight away what had happened after trying to start it  :'(.... so hopefully the belt is intact  :y

Thanks for the tips,  

Myself and my partner have had a look at the Cam belt and it seems to be intact and not jumped any teeth, although we couldn't look at the bottom as we didn't know how the cover came off.  We took the aux belt off and he says you can turn the air con pump, alternator etc by hand.

We even tried to bump start it but as soon as I dumped the clutch the car came to an abrupt hault.  We even tried it in reverse with no luck. :'(

I'm thinking that the starter may be nackered (only by judging what happened to my other car) as when you turn the key you get a click as if the starter is engaging but nothing happens.  I have tried hitting the starter with a hammer but I may not be hitting it hard enough. :-/

Would anyone have any other suggestions that I could try.  My patience is wearith thing with it and soon it may be off to the big scrap yard in the sky. :-[

ah, this relate to another post here.

you need to check cambelt timing, probably jumped a few teeth. sorry

Remove both belts from front of engine, then try turning the crank pulley clockwise firstly.
DON'T TRY TOWING/BUMP-STARTING. Remember something's locked within the engine.
If you can't turn it clockwise, try anti-clockwise next.
Still no luck, then remove spark plugs, try turning again.
See where you go from there.

The samething happened to a veccy I was working on. It was a 2.0ltr it was running ok (bit lumpy and rough) then stopped all of a sudden then wouldn't start. Starter moter clicking in but not turning the engine, checked the cambelt and there was no tension there at all, the tensioner went and must have bent some valves. I know this is a 2.0ltr and not a 2.5 v6 but the symptons are the same, but as some have said could be something else gone wrong.
