Title: Do vauxhall have any clue at all ??
Post by: Big Sye on 10 February 2009, 15:33:13
follwing on from my post a bit back about me toying with the idea of fitting cruise control to MV6.

i went to a vauxhall garage to get a rough i dea things would cost if i wanted new items instead of searching for them on ebay.
from the knowledge of what i have gathered from this forum  (which is FANTASTIC) i went to price up for a indicator stick with cruise, ecu and cable, and clutch switch etc...

the guy behind the counter started to confuse me when he asked if i had a clutch swith in already. (i have no clue if i do)
and i asked about the ecu and cable.   his reply was that i dont need the ecu and cable.    said something about the main ecu can be remapped to use the cruise.

now im not all thbat clever on mechanics  but i thought the whole point of the cable was to control how much acceleratiion the cruise would need to increase/decrease your set speed.

and then went on to say that if i dont have a clutch switch in already.  i need to make sure the wiring loom has the adaptor to fit one.

overall he said about £80-£90  plus about £60 to remap my ecu.

any ideas from anyone if this sounds about right.???

Think they maybe talking about the Fly by Wire cruise control....
as far as I know 2.5's & 3.0's use the cruise control with a wire that fastens to the side of the throttle body next to the accelerator cable. 2.6's & 3.2's don't have any wires to the side of the throttle body...

I know 3.0's & 2.5 auto's have a switch on the brake pedal, not sure about manuals, but would have thought they needed it so it knocks the cruise off as soon as you touch the brake.... £90 sounds dear to me as a secondhand one are £30 which includes postage..

Hope this makes sense :y

The later engines need ecu reprogramming, stalk, and possibly pedal switches.  Yours, being an older engine, its the full kit needed, but no ecu reprogramming :y

Those people needing cruise enabling in ECU, see http://theboy.omegaowners.com which will be cheaper than you're local dealer :y

Yours will need:

Actuator with its bowden cable, stalk, clutch switch if manual, and possibly a brake switch.
