Probably not many members have purchased new fobs, as there is a member who will replace/refurb the internals for a couple of beer vouchers and apart from the worn look you end up with a fob that feels brand new

Yeah,im sure i could get a new casing, but im not kean on having only one key for the beastie..........

I could buy a blank key and 2nd hand transponder and get it re-programmed,but either way i want to have a spare key

Thanks Theboy.......

What do you think...?

2nd hand may be dodgy and you have to get the correct one, there are at least 4 for the facelift

New - they tend to not fit the LEDs anymore

I have the Car pass card for the car so i suppose i should get the right one for the car.....

Could i just get a key cut as a spare? i.e just a key like the old Vx type?
Does turning the key in the door disarm the alarm etc?

I knew the Senators and Carltons were like that, didn't know if they had changed it or not.....

Might be worth just getting a basic key cut for a spare

Still need to get it programmed, else it won't start the car...

The key mechanically operates door lock/ign
Transponder gives engine ecu permission to start
Remote fob used for lock/unlock/alarm.

transponders and remote fobs need programming.

Hope that helps, as it depends what you want spare key for.

If you have no intention of getting the fob part, I'd recommend getting older style key, rather than horseshoe - no chance of transponder falling out ;D
