Title: snow button
Post by: Loch View on 11 February 2009, 16:23:08
I was wondering when you press the 'snowflake' button, is there a light on the dash that is supposed to come om :-?

I can press it all I want but nothing happens

Snow button itself lights up when pressed to show its working, nothing on the dash.  Only works (or should only work) when gear selector is in D, nowhere else....   :y

My snow light stays on all the time. Nothing to worry about though??

Doesn't seem to affect the drive.

The snowflake button locks the auto in third gear so it will not spin the tires on icy roads. It disengage above a certain speed.

Good for starting in an icy uphill.

As far as i recall, the snow crystal symbol is designed to help you when it's cold and slippery on the roads.

Usually the temperature will be flashing at you (which I find incredibly annoying) as a hint that it might be sensible to use the function.

When pressed (and as has already been pointed out it just shines - nothing on dashboard) you can put your foot down hard but it won't let the engine accelerate quickly to stop the wheels spinning.

It remains on/active until you reach 50 when it cuts out.

Hope this makes sense :y

And when outside temp is ...... ? degrees C. (Think it's when the 'snowflake' appears on the dash display screen).

had an opestunity to use snow mode again this morning, after prizing the door open that had frozen shut.
Snow mode stays on until you reach 60mph on mine.  Cant then re engage it until speed is below 30!
Now need new wipers, after leaving the car warming up for a good 10 mins they where STILL stuck to the screen. Now a big patch in the middle of the screen that wipers dont clear.

That must be your other car!  :-/ Mine doesn't flash. It will appear in the display in preferance to what you might have otherwise selected, but it does't flash on mine, nor have my Senators with a similar set-up.  :y :y :y

On my facelift, the temp will flash at you when it drops below 4 degrees.  On my old mini facelift, a snowflake icon used to appear beside the temperature.
