I have a 2.2 DTI estate 03 and there is blue smoke comming from a vent behind the offside front wheel. This only seems to happen in the winter, is this OK? :-?

A Wesbasto diesel heater.....heats the coolant up by burning diesel

A similar version is used on coaches and trains.
Some had pre-settable timers, so by warming the coolant, the engines fired-up first go. Voila, instant cold-starting in the Swiis Alps!

Trucks too

Webasto heater, also on 5 series e39 bmw and a long boat apparently, diesels tend to take longer to warm up so needs help. £750 to replace new, or 150 from a breaker. Sealed unit so not much you can do to fix em, just for info.

Had one (different make, german sounding beginning with K) on my old works transit back in early 90s (think that was K reg). Absolutely brilliant bit of kit, if somewhat unreliable. Unlike the Omega one, had a timer and cabin thermostat, so I'd be laying in bed getting ready to get up, and I'd here it fire up (mainly the fans), and by the time I'd showered and got dressed, the van would be nice and warm (and defrosted).
If I had a week off, though, I'd need that nice man from the RAC and his big long jumpleads ;D

As part of the very cold climate pack, the Omega had a timer and remote connected to the heater to!
It can all be seen in the wiring diags

I did miss it when I used to get in the car on a cold morning.
You've got me thinking now ::)

Should be easy enough to fit......finding one might be harder.
Add in a cheap generic remote unit

How about the version my dad fitted to his Victor when I was a kid, it involved a fan heater and an extension lead.
Throw the switch, eat breakfast and go out to a nice warm car. Didn't even use any petrol either. ;)

Wouldn't warm up the engine though...

look at Kenlow site they do a plug in heater element for most cars, it is a small pump along with an element which is put in to one of the heater pipes had one on one of my sennys and it was brilliant downside is you have to remember to plug it in whehn you park the car up!! and remember to unplug it when your going out!! which is what broke mine when i was late for >:(work one morning!!
howver it was a boon on cold frosty mornings as the car was up to running temp before i got in it!! :y

Thats the whole reason I was asking about it in the first place!
How common are they on Omegas? Take it there only fitted to diesels? Which models? Years etc? (Basicly, What are the chances of me finding one at a scrap yard? ;D)
