This is my first auto car so unknown territory , when I do the brake test or even use the brake , theres a click type noise from the transmission tunnel , is this normal? Also the temp reading flashes ,will it stop when the temp goes up over a preset figure?

the click from the tunnel is normal, its the safety lock disengaging which allows you to move the lever ;)

If its a post 1998 car - the click is normal. Its the Park lock solenoid.
The temp stops flashing about 3C (or if you press the S button on stalk). Its a warning that ice is likely to form

My outside temp display never flashes :-/

Its the outside temp reading, some manufacturers have danger of ice warning come up below 3 degrees so I assumed it was the same thing. Theres a few quirks to get used to yet such has not being able to take the key out the ignition unles the car s in p.

Only full size MIDs do it. CIDs come up with a warning sign, GIDs come up with Ice Warning text, CCRT MIDs just pop up the temp.. TIDs, iirc, put a snowflake symbol near temp.
