i had a odd one yesterday thats put me in panic mode. i went to town in the yesterday morning.
As i just turn in to the multi-storey car park I lost the powersterring and had on dash on came the ABS and traction control lights
car is a mini facelift t reg elite 3l
78k on clock
managed to wrestle it around car park without power steering
by the time I get to floor 3 power steering back and ABS and TC light go out and all seems ok
first torts were limp mode but engine management. light never came on. second thort was i just had a min valit ie hand in side and out maybe some was wet.
but parked up when in shopping centre.
on leaving shopping centre ABS and TC light is back on but powersteering still working ok
but I notice that the speedo aint working now
It dont seem top be in limp mode as engine still seems to be running sweet
was to late dark to look at much when i got back. I was intending to check all fuses and have a poke at relays when its light.
dont know if there's and codes stored as management light aint on
but being a btt skint i am in panic mode. as i need the car

been serching here and going mad with googel.
and I sugests that t related to the abs ecu
hoping and seen it suggested that its vonable to getting wet from location
so worth checking loom plug to the abs ecu
and that alot of time that if its the ecu then its a dry joint
anyone took one out how easy is it to get at

Does sound like ABS ECU - did you lose speedo, and did the MID claim you were using several gallons of fuel per hour on the Inst Cons setting?
-
ABS/TC ECU...get one from a similar year 3.0 98-00 and your sorted...worth checking the plug first but usually when they go wrong...they need replacing...about £40-50...
Other option is getting your current one refurbing...about £100 plus postage for that...
Removal/fitting is pretty easy to do yourself...only involves removing the 6 retaining screws...however access is a pig so need to remove radiator top hose and potentially unscrew the wiring connectors and fluid reservoir to get that access :y
PS...dont panic!! The car will run with the ECU not working...pretty sure the side effects you have, no speedo, loss of power steering, ABS/TC on so now ABS or TC are the only actual loss you will suffer until its sorted...
P.P.S. Didnt notice you were dyslexic when reading the post so good job there :y

thanks guys
havent looked at fuel consumption comp , will have a look. just went out and started car
and all back to normal again
That leads me to think that it related top this cold spell
ie eather damp in it. i will try and see if i can give plug a shake if i can reach it later.
i may be able to as i have small hands and wrist
another thing im wondering is if the weather ie freezing and heat from engine bay is causing them to dry joint or brake a trac on the board
with expansion and contraction
if it a dry joint or a cracked board I can fix my self and save my self the 100 for a referb as it an east job to sort a few dry joints or damaged track or cracked board
im guess its usually that rather than a component fail on board
at least my mins is at ease that the elite aint a goner.
i can live with out the abs and tc sucks anyway.
but cant live with pout power steering as iv got a spinal curvature and back pain.
and wrestling with a a 3l omega aint good for me if the powersteering holds out. i can wait fopr it warm up a bit before getting spanners out, as it aint much fun in the cold loaded up with DF118s

Your PAS isn't 'Broke' as such, its just with it being variable assistance on the V6 dependant on speed, when the ABS and TC kicks off, the PAS will be 'locked' to whatever the assistance level is when the speedo dies.
So say your ABS was working and then kicks out at 5mph, your steering will remain quite light.
If your ABS kicks out at say 70mph, there will be very little assistance, so will feel much heavier at low speeds.
It more than likely is related to the cold damp spell were having, my MV6 is doing the same, but does seem to be behaving itself now.
Good luck with it :)

The failure on these post 1998 ABS units is a bonding wire that starts to fail.

No photo's?
So ....... the £100 BBA etc repair is 5 mins with a soldering iron .... or is there a bit more to it?

Not done one myself, suspect its probably a bit longer than 5 mins.

sounds about right
most modern boards are all serface mounted components nowadays and bitch to do its rare for modern components to fail anyway
dry joint or cracked board more likely on a car with vibration and expansion and contraction from temperature.
if i do end up getting the soldering iron out.
I try getting some pics up and a bit as it may be useful others
