Anyone have any knowledge of Sintras?? Getting one today as needing a 7 seater and its cheap...has an Omega 3.0 engine in although its FWD and transverse engine...
Any other similarities with the Omega anyone know other than the engine??
Also how easy is it to change the wheel hubs?? Are they welded onto the struts or removable?? Any chance I would be able to put Omega hubs onto the Sintra so I could put Omega wheels on it as with an offset of 115 on the Sintra it will be awkward to find replacements for the 15" alloys that come on it...

Just had a quick google.

Other than the engine (which is an absolute rather swine to work on plus even changing the battery is bloody awful) they have nothing at all in common.

Well that is good news! lol Thanks :y Does seem like they picked a random American wheel offset with the 115 hubs that no other UK car seems to share...Nice thinking Vaux!

On the plus side of that review...£3600 for a 3.0 P reg Sintra??!! I'm guessing maybe the review is out of date price wise...but I'mpaying £250 for it so I think that will do...
On the definite negative side I'm now worried by the poor crash ratings, and not sure I would trust my family to be in it now...can easily break it, get my money back plus a shed load more if need be...can make the money from the engine alone...

You can always look for some nice cadillac wheels. they fit ;)

Far more similarities with Vectra-C in every respect.

Ok TB thanks :) Worth knowing...although now very unsure as to its safety...when I'm using it it will be to transport 4 young children around in!!

Largish car, so always a better chance of surviving injury

And apparently safer than a 2007 Grand Voyager!!!

Hi mate
The Sintra is a US vehicle but adapted for europe, Vx/Opel need a people carrier quick so while the Zafira was still on the drawing board they chopped up a US vehicle to make it fit for europe.
To be honest i wouldn't give these garage space. The electrics are trouble, there are hardly any pattern parts made for them, OE parts are very hard to get and they cost a bomb.
My opion would be to get shot and pick up a Zafira instead.

MutantCav - my bad, I misread, thought you said Signum!
Sorry.
Sintra is a heap. You could try PM'ing MaxV6, he had/has one.

Zaffy is a fair bit smaller though....

The Sintra is a US vehicle but adapted for europe,
I am sure AndyC wanted to say: 'GM tried adapting it for Europe',and even that is streching it. One of the worst cars you could buy in the UK in recent times. Stay clear. BTW, the car was made in the US, on the same line as Pontiac TransSport and Chevrolet something (what Sintra actually is). Engines where shipped from Europe, installed in the cars and the complete cars then shipped back to Europe.

Seem to remember that the alarm system is troublesome on these. Quite a rare vehicle but very handy load space in them.

Picked it up today...I dont doubt its flawed and as already said seems to be a mismatch of Omega stuff Vectra stuff and so on...Battery and location to say the least seems a bit of a challenge...
However that said, forum reviews seem to suggest that despite its flaws people like it...its a lot more roomy than the Zafira, has a good 3.0 Omega engine in it and from my point of view, it was VERY cheap (could easily sell the engine for more than I paid for the car!)...the supposed possible HG failure seems to be a failed header tank pressure cap and rattling tensioners which doesnt bother me at all as I have replaced the cap with an Omega one and can get new belt and water pump fitted for £175 including the belt kit) so years MOT and nicely running 3.0 v6 engine and away I go :)
If I had £2k to spend on a 7 seater, cant say I would buy a Sintra...but for sub £500 for a 7 seater with a years MOT and timing belt sorted...I'm not gonna complain...
Think I will look into getting the battery adaptor you can apparently get to convert a decent normal battery to the required terminals for the Sintra but fingers crossed it will do me for a while till I can afford something better and if nothing else I can easily get my money back at the end of it :)
