Title: Spare Keys
Post by: Blueview on 15 February 2009, 19:32:23
Hi, I need a spare key for my 2000 Elite (Car only came with one and nervous about losing/breaking it).

A few threads exist on the topic but nothing definitive. Can anyone offer a solution to obtaining a complete one; transponder with central locking and immobiliser buttons etc. for less than £50?

you're looking at tenner for blade with transponder, few quid to cut it, around £30 for the fob, and a certain amount for programming it to car

Sounds good (and affordable). I know I can obtain blade/transponder from local key cutter, but do you know where I can obtain a fob and where I can get it programmed (is that a VX job)?

I got the "plip" bit off ebay for £9, cost £25 to have it programed, I saved a little because I already had the blade.  I think cutting is around £15.
You really need a spare, imagine the cost if you lost your one and only key!!!

Vx dealer charges a fortune and no refund if it doesn't work. I had mine programmed at a local corner key cutting type shop.

Couldn't agree more. So, where did you get it programmed?

Got it done in Grimsby, but they need the car there, otherwise you could do it by post.
Oh and there is one on ebay at the mo:-

It is 99p now but obviously it will go up.

If buying fobs, ensure its the right one! There are lots of different types that look similar.

For programming, depending on location, http://theboy.omegaowners.com

Sister in law works for a well know high street key cutting-type shop and they have a means of cloning the existing transponder code to the one in the new key blank...apparently a very high success rate... I have a spare for mine already (non-GM) so won't be needing the facility for mine any time soon.

Re-read the post - I think the facility i'm on about is only for the key with built-in transponder chip, not the remote locking versions..

Remote fob cannot be cloned

Exactly, TB...which is why i clarified my point (I hope..).  My Mig doesn't have remote locking via the original system (aftermarket alarm) hence no Vauxhall keyfob - just the chip in the key..

Remote fobs have had rolling code generators for ages to prevent just that - which I knew.

Did Blueview want a spare key (hence manual unlocking of the doors if on the deadlocks), or a spare remote key?

Cheers guys, I'll have a dig around. I'm aware that the key I have has a long digit code that changes with each use so I'll investigate further based on that. If I can come up with a step-by-step guide of how to gt everything you need etc. I'll post it.

For factory fit central locking/alarms, its a simple step by step:

Get '105' blade and transponder (eg, from OOF shop)
Get '105' blade cut at key cutters
Get remote fob from ebay or dealer (read the manufacturer and type on back of your existing one, new one must be the same)
Get the whole lot programmed to car (http://theboy.omegaowners.com or local autolocksmith)

Hi! Seems there are lots of problems with Omega keys. Mine is two button, which we find a 'nuisance' when coming back from shopping, having to undo the car and pressing the dash one. This is worse because I use a 3 wheeled walker. Does it really cost approx: £50 plus to get a new 3 button key and programmed, complete?? Am wondering whether to do that, to save us the inconvieniance ?? Was even thinking of changing this car and had a 'look' at a smaller 5 door today -- Untilwe was told the part exchange allowed was £250 ? Who was kidding who, made us wonder ?? Yes!!  We walked away! So can you tell me just how much each new complete 3 button key, would cost, allin and programmed. Thank you .

Is yours estate? They are 2 button.  Only facelift saloons are 3 button fobs.

I got a full key from ebay,£23,now i dont know if its one of the ones that wont re-programme to mine or not...i will eventually try and programme it to mine but can i get the blade cut for mine and use it as is?
As in,just use the actual key to open doors and de-activate the alarm by the ignition? or am i missing the point somewhere? ;D

Effectively its just a key like the old type laser key.... :y

Hello The Boy, Sorry I did not state my omega is a saloon car. I was given two, two button keys, when I bought the car, not knowing it needed three buttons for Boot opening. Can anyone supply, a new complete key, fully programmed and working as it should and what would be the total cost.  Can you also tell me, what is a car pass and what is it used for ??  Thank you.

cheapest way is to get correct bliper (from vx for 35 sobs for a 3 button) and take it, car and car pass to see The Boy on here. If he has blade and transponder he can do the rest. Then take key to a lock smith to be cut.
Car pass holds car security numbers, key, radio, cd changer codes etc. From vx only if lost afaik.
